Job summary

Buncombe County Government is seeking an entry-level Grounds Technician to maintain approximately 700 acres of county property, including parks and facilities. You will work with a dedicated team, receive PPE, uniforms, and tools at no cost, and help ensure clean, safe, and attractive outdoor spaces for the community.

The role requires a high school diploma and at least one year of lawn care/maintenance experience, plus a valid NC driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High School graduation or equivalent with minimum of one year of experience in lawn care/maintenance, trades, or construction.
• Must be 21 years of age or older to operate county vehicles.
• Experience in one or more trades (masonry, carpentry, painting, welding) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair and alteration of all county government owned properties.
• Design and implement landscape maintenance plans; ensure weed control, mulch application, planting and replacement of plants.
• Operate equipment to cut, trim, and maintain lawns; rake leaves and manage debris; remove fallen trees and limbs; collect trash.
• Prepare swimming pools for seasonal use; monitor filtration systems.
• Perform seasonal maintenance such as power washing buildings; assist with events like Special Olympics and Fall Festival.
• Pre-treat walkways and parking areas for inclement weather; clear ice and snow; distribute ice melt.
