Job summary

Schnabel Engineering seeks an Entry-Level (Staff) Engineer to join the tunnel engineering group in the Austin, TX office. The role targets civil/geotechnical/structural backgrounds with preference for tunnel design, excavation support, and underground structures.

You will assist with design, inspection, and construction management of tunnel projects, and travel up to 20% is expected. Required 0–2 years’ experience, a B.S.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree Civil Engineering or equivalent experience in Geotechnical or Structural Engineering.
• 0–2 years of relevant professional experience.
• Proficiency in design calculations, drawings, specifications, and memos.
• Able to work independently and develop design tasks.
• Strong communication skills to interface with owner and teams.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD.
• Occasional travel up to 20%.
• Field work on tunnels, shafts and underground structures may be required.

Responsibilities

• Support planning, management, and execution of tunnel and underground projects.
• Collaborate with multidiscipline teams through the design process.
• Perform design calculations for tunnels, underground structures and rehabilitation projects.
• Develop contract documents including calculations, reports, plans, specs.
• Travel and work in the field including field inspections and geotechnical investigations.
