Job summary

Langan is seeking a Geotechnical and Modeling Engineer to join its collaborative team in New York City. This role focuses on planning and executing field investigations, monitoring earthwork and foundations, and preparing logs, reports, and geotechnical analyses for large projects.

You will work on 2D/3D finite element analyses, evaluate deformations, and develop solutions for field and lab problems, with opportunities for growth and broader project involvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s with geotechnical specialty preferred.
  • GPA minimum 3.5.
  • EIT Certification or FE registration.
  • Experience with Plaxis and DeepEx preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and execution of field investigations, including logging borings and test pits, collecting samples, performing field tests.
  • Observe foundation and earthwork construction activities; monitors conformance with the construction documents.
  • Identify and implement solutions to both routine and complex field and/or laboratory problems.
  • Prepare standard logs and field forms, including drilling and test pit logs, field investigation dailies, and chain of custody logs.
  • Review Foundation, Structural, and S&O drawings and derive geometry and properties for finite element analyses.
  • Perform 2D and 3D finite element analyses.
  • Evaluate structural deformations using simplified methods.
  • Prepare data plots for presentations and technical reports.
  • Accurately document and communicate with supervisor on any problems encountered on project sites; and
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Geotechnical and Modeling Engineer to join its collaborative team in New York City. This individual will serve a key function in providing the planning and execution of field investigations, monitoring foundation and earthwork construction, identifying and implementing field and lab work solutions, and preparing logs and reports. In this role, you will have the opportunity to analyze geotechnical engineering problems, and assist in preparation of geotechnical engineering reports on large-scale and high‑profile projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Observe foundation and earthwork construction activities; monitors conformance with the construction documents;
  • Identify and implement solutions to both routine and complex field and/or laboratory problems;
  • Prepare standard logs and field forms, including drilling and test pit logs, field investigation dailies, and chain of custody logs;
  • Review Foundation, Structural, and Support of Excavation drawings and derive geometry and structural properties for finite element analyses;
  • Perform 2D and 3D finite element analyses;
  • Evaluate structural deformations using simplified methods;
  • Prepare data plots for presentations and technical reports;
  • Accurately document and communicate with supervisor on any problems encountered on project sites; and
  • Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required, Master’s degree with Geotechnical specialty and coursework in foundation engineering, finite element methods, and geotechnical earthquake engineering preferred;
  • Entry to 3 years of work‑related experience;
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5;
  • EIT Certification or current registration for FE exam;
  • Experience with Plaxis and DeepEx preferred;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;
  • Willingness to spend the majority of work hours in the field;Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment; and
  • Possess a valid driver’s license in good standing.

Pay Range

$68,250—$93,000 USD

Certain US jurisdictions require Langan to include an estimate of salary or hourly ranges. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills. Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm's annual bonus and performance review program. Bonuses are discretionary and based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm. Employees are also eligible to receive up to 20 days of paid vacation time, 10 days of paid sick time and 10 paid holidays throughout the year. Eligibility and actual paid time off may vary based on local law and factors such as hours worked, related work experience and level.
