Job summary

Hyatt Regency Baytown is seeking a Shift Engineer to handle general maintenance of guest rooms, meeting spaces, and back-of-house areas, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems. You will perform preventive maintenance and read blueprints, with a focus on safety, quality, and timely service.

This role requires 1–2 years in building maintenance, flexibility to work mornings/evenings/weekends/holidays, and a collaborative spirit to support hotel operations and Loss Prevention when needed.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in general building maintenance and/or construction or equivalent.
  • Flexible work availability including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Specialized expertise in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry fields preferred.
  • Hotel experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a tower tour during early shift, check lobby lights and room corridors.
  • Keep grounds of hotel clean.
  • Monitor work orders in the Maintenance Program.
  • Check mechanical readings, water pressure, and temperatures; report anomalies.
  • Complete daily check list sheets.
  • Handle radio responses and guest requests.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC, kitchen, and laundry equipment.
  • Leave notes for DOE and supervisor on unresolved issues.
  • Document work performed in daily log and work orders.
  • Assist in Loss Prevention when needed and directed by DOE.

Job Description

A Shift Engineer will be responsible primarily for general maintenance and repairs in guest room, meeting space, and front of the house areas, as well as back of the house areas including kitchen, laundry, electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems. A Shift Engineer will also perform preventive maintenance on major equipment and systems, using a windows based computer system. Ability to read blue prints and schematics is preferred, along with basic trouble-shooting skills. Good communication skills are necessary

Responsibilities Include – (not limited to)
  • Conduct a tower tour during early part of shift, checking lights in lobby areas and room corridors.
  • Always keep grounds of hotel clean
  • Check your designated area for work orders generated in the hotel’s Maintenance Program.
  • At specified times check mechanical readings, water pressure and temperature readings. Report out to Director of Engineering or Engineering Supervisor when readings are not correct.
  • Complete daily check list sheets.
  • Handle all radio responses and guest request.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance of HVAC units, kitchen, and laundry equipment as required by established maintenance schedules.
  • Perform pool reading and pool basic maintenance.
  • Leave notes and documentation for DOE and supervisor of unsolved problems or areas that need follow-up on the next day.
  • Through work orders, job tickets and the daily log, document all work performed on your shift.
  • Complete all work requests assigned to you on a timely basis. Completely fill in WO’s with work done on job.
  • Assist in Loss Prevention when needed and directed by the DOE.
  • Assist Loss Prevention in Fire Alarm’s and emergences.
  • Actively pursue training to update mechanical and electrical skills. Look to develop into a Class 1 Engineer in the future
  • Ensure lighting in the hotel is on/or functional.
  • Conduct basic HVAC, plumbing and Mechanical Preventive Maintenance on hotel equipment.
  • Report out to DOE or Engineering Supervisor when parts are needed to complete work in the hotel.
  • Look for ways to safe on Energy and reduce our Carbon footprint.
  • Always maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and be in proper uniform.
  • Ensure teamwork in the department and with other departments. Work in a positive way with others. Follow out all reasonable request for other Department Managers.
  • Be able to respond to any Guest room request in less than 15 minutes.
  • Always keep the department clean and organize. Put away anything you take out. Department tools should be organized and accounted for at the end of the day.
  • Ensure all Mechanical Rooms are clean and organize.
  • Have knowledge of and participate in the total quality management process.
  • Have knowledge of the department’s job safety analysis and adhere to the JSA’s.
  • Have knowledge and adhere to all hotel safety policies.
  • Adhere to the department’s Mission Statement and Core Values.
  • Go to Daily Department meeting and be involved with training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications

  • 1-2 years’ experience in general building maintenance and/or construction or equivalent combination of education
  • Must have flexible work availability to include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Specialized expertise in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry fields preferred.
  • Hotel experience preferred.
Physical Requirements – (not limited to)
  • Carrying, lifting, pushing and/or pulling items weighing up to 50 -100 pounds.
  • Frequent standing up and moving about the facility.
  • Frequent handling objects and equipment to maintain the building.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and crawling.
  • Occasionally climbing stairs.
