Job summary

City of Marion in Iowa seeks a Firefighter to join the Fire Department. Firefighters provide emergency medical services, fire suppression, technical rescue, and hazmat response; work as part of a team, train regularly, and maintain vehicles, stations, equipment.

This demanding role requires physical fitness, strong communication, and the ability to follow policies under pressure; reporting to Captain, overtime paid, non-exempt under FLSA, with civil service status.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required or equivalent.
• Iowa or National EMT-B certification.
• Iowa or National EMT-I or EMT-P certification preferred.
• Iowa or National Fire Fighter I certification desirable.
• Must have valid Iowa driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Regular, reliable work attendance.
• Responds to calls for service; drives fire department apparatus and other vehicles.
• Performs critical tasks to mitigate hazards on emergency scenes to save lives and property.
• Communicates effectively with diverse populations to provide excellent customer service and safety.
• Attends training courses and studies materials related to emergency response and prevention.
• Performs general maintenance for equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
• Assists in community risk reduction and adherence to fire prevention ordinances.
• May perform acting fire officer duties as determined by leadership.
• Follows policy and direction from officers and performs related work.
