Job summary

Purchase District Health Department in Kentucky is seeking an Environmental Health Inspector trainee to learn applying environmental health programs and enforce regulations through formal training and on-the-job experience.

You will perform inspections of tourist accommodations, schools and pools to ensure compliance with state and local rules, collect samples, and interpret data. A valid driver's license and eligibility for Kentucky registration under KRS 223 are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with a minor or 24 semester hours in environmental health or related science.
• Registration as Kentucky Environmental Specialist/Sanitarian under KRS 223.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Must participate in annual continuing education classes.
• Drug screening and background check may be required.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular inspections of tourist accommodations, schools and swimming pools for compliance with regulations.
• Inspect food establishments for sanitation compliance.
• Take water samples and forward for testing.
• Investigate nuisance complaints and related environmental health duties.
• Interpret reports and data from inspections and tests and present results to stakeholders.
