Job summary

SCS Engineers in Charlotte, NC is seeking an entry-level engineer to support the Mid-Atlantic solid waste practice. You'll provide engineering and environmental services to private and municipal clients, with hands-on training and mentorship in the field and office.

The role includes permitting, design, analysis, and construction oversight for landfill and related projects. You’ll use AutoCAD Civil3D, Leapfrog, ArcGIS, and other tools while developing reports.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in civil, environmental, biosystems, or geotechnical engineering required.
• 3 months of relevant solid waste, environmental and/or engineering internship, work and/or research experience required.
• Basic AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil3D knowledge is preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with keen attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) preferred.
• Valid Driver’s License with a driving record in good standing required.

Responsibilities

• Support new and existing solid waste project assignments for our solid waste clients and facilities which include studies, designs, calculations, permitting, drawings, reports, data analytics, and more.
• Support existing air quality permitting and compliance reporting project assignments for industrial facilities by preparing air permit applications, developing pollutant emissions calculations, preparing certification reports, and assisting clients develop and implement air quality permitting and compliance strategies.

Job description

As an entry‑level engineer, you will provide engineering/design support to the Mid‑Atlantic team within our existing solid waste practice which is focused on providing engineering and environmental services to private and municipal clients in the landfill, landfill gas, air permitting, and solid waste management industries. You’ll receive hands‑on training and mentorship while gaining valuable experience in both the field and the office. Potential projects include landfill and other solid waste facility permitting and design (all phases, including construction plans, specifications and construction documents), engineering analysis, feasibility studies, report writing, as well as construction oversight. You will be based out of our Charlotte, NC office with occasional travel for fieldwork.

How You Can Make An Impact

• Support new and existing solid waste project assignments for our solid waste clients and facilities which include studies, designs, calculations, permitting, drawings, reports, data analytics, and more.
• Support existing air quality permitting and compliance reporting project assignments for industrial facilities by preparing air permit applications, developing pollutant emissions calculations, preparing certification reports, and assisting clients develop and implement air quality permitting and compliance strategies (e.g., evaluating and designing emission control systems) and protocols.
• Support new and existing engineering and construction quality assurance (CQA) projects related to landfill gas, landfill engineering, industrial wastewater treatment, stormwater management, renewable energy, groundwater remediation, infrastructure and other environmental projects, both in the field (requiring travel) and in the office.
• Provide computer‑aided design and drafting support, as well as innovative technology platform support, for various solid waste and environmental services projects, utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D, Leapfrog Works, ArcGIS, SCS E‑Tools, various computer models, and related programs.
• Support our core competency practice areas within our Solid Waste and Environmental Services Divisions, as well as our four Strategic Initiative practice areas, which include topics such as liquids management and wastewater treatment, organics management, alternative energy (solar and biogas), GHG and sustainability, and deep well injection and carbon sequestration.

Pay Range
USD $65,000.00 - USD $70,000.00 /Yr.
