Pepper Construction is hiring a Project Engineer I to join our Illinois-based team. You will work with an experienced Project Manager and Superintendent to manage projects from start to finish, including budgeting, scheduling, and coordination with subcontractors.

The role emphasizes client satisfaction, cost control, and documentation, with opportunities to participate in training sessions, tours, and safety meetings on site.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering or related field.
• 0–2 years of experience with a General Contractor or in construction.
• Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Detail oriented.
• This is an in-person position in Illinois.

Responsibilities

• Identify and exceed client needs to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Estimate, value engineer and develop project budgets.
• Facilitate the subcontractor bid process.
• Negotiate subcontracts and material buyout.
• Plan and schedule projects.
• Manage jobs in progress, including subcontractor coordination, conflict resolution, documentation and safety on every job.
• Manage project costs and forecast profits through completion.
• Perform project closeout.
