Job summary

UT Health San Antonio is seeking an entry level Hospital - Clinical Lab Assistant at Hill Country clinic in San Antonio, TX. Under close supervision, you will perform phlebotomy, process specimens, handle inquiries, conduct waived testing, and support pre-analytic tasks. You may float to different locations as needed.

Schedule: Monday–Friday 8am–5pm. This on-site role requires a high school diploma or GED; a certified phlebotomy program is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a certified phlebotomy program preferred.
• 1 year of phlebotomy and specimen processing experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood specimens.
• Receives and accession specimens into LIS.
• Prepares and aliquots specimens for tests according to established protocols.
• Monitors and maintains inventory levels of laboratory supplies.
• Provides information regarding specimen collection, test requisitions, and laboratory procedures.
• Addresses inquiries and concerns; escalates complex issues to the appropriate personnel.
• Ensures compliance with all applicable quality control and quality assurance measures.
• Assists in the preparation and setup of laboratory equipment and instruments.
• Ensures the proper handling and transportation of specimens within the laboratory.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
