Job summary

Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a Civil Engineer to join Mechanical Systems Engineering at the Niskayuna site. You will help maintain, repair and renovate infrastructure while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

The role emphasizes civil/structural evaluations for roads, utilities, and roofs, plus support for capital projects from design to cost estimates, with a healthy mix of field and office work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters in a related technical/engineering field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with federal/state engineering codes and structural evaluations.
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills; able to work with multiple project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support preventative maintenance, emergent repairs and renovations for systems and facilities at the Niskayuna site.
  • Conduct civil and structural assessments for roads, underground utilities, roofing and siding improvements.
  • Assist with recapitalization projects from concept design through cost estimates and contract documents.
  • Balance on-site fieldwork with in-office analysis and collaboration across teams.

Job Description

Mechanical Systems Engineering is looking for a civil engineer to join its multi-disciplinary team of engineers to work collaboratively to support preventative maintenance, emergent repairs and renovation projects for systems and facility infrastructure located at our Niskayuna Site. Typical projects include civil and structural evaluations in support of road building, underground utilities, and roof repairs; supporting the identification of utilities for evacuations; engineering support of recapitalization projects, including concept designs, evaluations, contract documents, construction cost estimates, and project follow; and maintenance and operations support of emergent issues. This position includes a balanced mix of on scene and in office work.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field.

  • Previous intern experience in construction or facilities engineering

Pay Range

$63,900.00 - $97,800.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets.
