Huska & Horgan Engineering, LLC is seeking an entry-level civil engineer to work on grading, stormwater, and utility design on permitted projects. You will work under licensed PEs, drawing live plans with AutoCAD, and gain EIT experience across site development.
The role starts in person and shifts to hybrid as you progress, serving residential and small commercial projects in the DC/VA/MD area. We offer a base salary of $78,000 to $90,000, comprehensive benefits, and a clear path to licensure.
Huska & Horgan Engineering, LLC | Washington, D.C. | $78,000 to $90,000 per year | Full time | In person to start, hybrid after
Entry level civil engineer, $78,000 to $90,000, doing real grading, stormwater management and utility design on permitted projects in your first year. Huska & Horgan is a six person site civil and land development firm in Washington, D.C. that has completed more than 1,250 projects since 2016.
You'd work directly under licensed PEs. There's no CAD department here and no year of shadowing, so you'll be drawing on a live project within a few weeks of starting. If you want your EIT experience to cover the full range of site design instead of one sheet type, this is that job.
Further out, once you're licensed and running your own projects, there's real money beyond salary and a genuine path into ownership of the firm, and we'll walk you through how it works when you're closer to it.
Huska & Horgan Engineering, LLC is a site civil and land development firm at 1050 30th St NW in Washington, D.C. Six people, two of them licensed principals, more than 30 years of combined experience, nine municipalities served. Services run from civil engineering and site development through stormwater design, land surveying, arborist and environmental services, construction documents and permit acquisition.
The projects are small. Single family additions, high end custom homes, townhome developments, Section 8 housing, small commercial and retail, with an average fee around $10,000.
Most firms won't staff jobs that size, and most won't pull permits in D.C. because the process is slow and difficult. Huska & Horgan does both.
Work is coming back faster than six people can carry, so this is a new position. The firm was nine before a slow 2025 and is building back from six.
There is no CAD department, no permitting specialist and no admin support. You'll draw your own sheets and track your own permit applications.
