Job summary

Pickering, Corts & Summerson, Inc. in Ewing, NJ is seeking an Entry Level Engineer / Bridge Inspector to join our team.

This role focuses on inspection and evaluation of bridges using engineering knowledge to determine structural condition in NBIS and local, state, and federal regulations. You will assist in field inspections, draft reports, review plans, and support the Inspection Team Leader on recommendations and cost estimates for repairs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• EIT certification (or ability to obtain) preferred.
• Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD software is a plus.
• Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment to reach mutual goals.
• Ability to navigate around bridge structures and may require climbing, wading, boating, and working in traffic.
• Desire to work outside in all weather and in the office preparing reports.
• Willingness to travel within PA, NJ and DE.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the inspection of bridges and foundations for structural integrity, safety, and conformance to specifications and codes.
• Assist in writing draft reports for review by Team Leaders.
• Assist in preparing recommendations, including quantities and costs for repairs to bridges for review by the Inspection Team Leader.
• Assist in using inspection equipment (meters, tape measures, calipers, ladders, cameras, probing rods, etc.).
• Review and interpret plans, blueprints, and site layouts to ensure compliance with legal requirements and safety regulations.
• Assist in performing Load Ratings to determine Safe Load Capacity and Posting Level using LRFD, LFD, and ASD methodologies.
