Job summary

Abrasive Blasters join Newport News Shipbuilding, part of HII, to perform surface preparation and coating adhesion work on steel structures. Training covers use, maintenance, and safe operation of blast equipment across environments including tanks and voids.

Roles require passing a background check and drug screen, physical agility, and ability to work outdoors year-round, lift 40 lbs, and work at heights with appropriate PPE. Competitive pay and benefits offered.

Qualifications

• Must be willing to undergo a background investigation and drug screen
• Must be able to pass physical agility test
• Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb daily
• Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds
• Must be able to perform overhead work
• Must be able to work at extreme heights
• Must be able to perform outdoor work year-round in all weather conditions
• Must be able to work in small, tight, confined spaces
• Must be able to take measurements or be willing to learn
• Must be willing to work in radiation areas, but with the appropriate training and equipment
• Must be able to be clean shaven to wear a respirator
• Must be able to work overtime as needed
• Must be willing to work any shift

Responsibilities

• Learn and perform blast operations safely in tanks, voids, and on steel structures
• Operate blast equipment and maintain safety practices for elevated work using staging, scaffolding, and lifting equipment such as hoists and scissor lifts
