Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking an entry-level Distribution Designer to manage design projects for a variety of customers, balancing cost, safety, and regulatory requirements. The role covers initial customer contact through post-project analysis and may require after-hours support in emergencies.

The position offers two levels, with pay ranges reflecting experience, and opportunities to work with engineers, contractors, and city agencies while supporting critical energy infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in drafting, design, automation, electronics, mechatronics, engineering, GIS, or related field.
• In lieu of an Associates Degree: combination of education and experience in design/drafting, construction, project management, or electronics providing equivalent knowledge.
• Knowledge of Windows OS and Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Manage projects from initial customer contact through post-project analysis; establish and manage the construction work plan to meet schedule, design, and budget requirements.
• Design safe operating facilities for new and existing customers; provide distribution design project management for the least complex areas of design; generate additional revenue through contracts with new or existing customers.
• Obtain permits and easements; execute contracts and agreements in compliance with instructions and regulatory requirements.
• Represent the Company with government officials, contractors, city agencies, vendors, architects, and engineers to provide service to customers.
