Entertainment Technical Designer 2 - Project

Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('SpinCo') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

Working in a collaborative production team environment, this role is responsible for expediting all aspects of technical design/drafting along with show production support and staff oversight. This includes design, development, fabrication/installation oversight, facility interface, operation, maintenance, and documentation in compliance with codes and jurisdictional requirements for entertainment projects.

The responsibilities include:

  1. Working directly under the Sr Technical Designer in collaboration with Technical Manager and Art Department to strategize on approach of design and production at the beginning of each new job.
  2. Collaborating with various disciplines to integrate show systems including A/V, lighting, electrical, and special effects into technical design packages.
  3. Producing accurate technical drawings, details, install packages, as-builts, structural, rough and finish construction details for internal use and outsourcing.
  4. Reviewing and redlining technical drawings for client approval.
  5. Coordinating design documentation from contractors/vendors, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements and specifications.
  6. Assisting in estimating and design where necessary.
  7. Producing installation packages that guide installation crews within the larger space.
  8. Maintaining revision and document control digitally and on-site.
  9. Coordinating close-out packages, maintenance manuals, as-builts, and revisions.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in technical design/drafting, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Knowledge of general and scenic construction materials, including Type V construction.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D, 3D, and Microsoft Office.
  • Leadership skills and ability to manage staff on project deliverables.
  • In-field installation experience in entertainment/theme park environments.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments with tight schedules.
  • Knowledge of stage/entertainment practices, equipment, and technologies.
  • Effective communication skills across business lines.
  • Awareness of Environmental Safety standards and ADA compliance.
  • Availability to work weekends, holidays, and nights as needed.

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Architecture, Sketchup, REVIT.
