Responsibilities

  • Develop prototypes of intelligent network capabilities in MITRE advanced labs.

  • Execute data science research from data wrangling to reporting and visualization.
  • Scale solutions to work across large enterprises and large data sets.
  • Analyze data from network sensor systems and integrate additional data sources for improved outcomes.
  • Communicate technical approach and findings to internal and external stakeholders.

The L616 – Enterprise and Tactical Networking Department within MITRE Technology and Engineering specializes in complex network challenges vital to national well-being. Our work involves researching, developing, and applying advanced technologies in core areas such as:

  • Network architecture and design
  • Software-defined / Virtual networks (SDN/NFV)
  • Network reliability, resilience, mission security and assurance, network data analytics
  • E2E network MS&A, T&E, AFSIM
  • Embedded networks (IoT, icd, SCADA)
  • Tactical and threat-informed networking
  • Machine Learning and AI-driven network analytics

Job Responsibilities

Basic Qualifications
  • Sustained excellence in academic performance
  • Must be a student enrolled full-time in an accredited degree-seeking program in [computer science, computer information systems, cybersecurity, computer engineering, electrical engineering, data science] or a related degree and continue to be enrolled full-time the semester following the internship.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Demonstrated interest in serving the public
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exposure to network programmability concepts such as software define networking (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV), and programmable data planes
  • Exposure to virtualization, automation and DevOps architectures such as Docker Swarm, Kubernetes, Chef and Puppet.
  • Ability to apply, modify and formulate algorithms and processes to solve challenging problems
  • Knowledge of various machine learning paradigms (deep learning, reinforcement learning, neural networks, etc.) with an understanding of mathematical underpinnings of various models
  • Hands-on software development skills in a modern programming language (e.g. Python, R, Scala, Java)
  • Working knowledge of data science workflow from data acquisition to reporting findings
  • Strong understanding of streaming and batch data workflows, including message queues, processing directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) and data stores.
