Lumen is the trusted network for the AI‑powered world, connecting people, data, and applications through our expansive fiber network and connected ecosystem. We enable secure, high‑performance connectivity across cloud, edge, and AI workloads for enterprises, governments, and communities.

At Lumen, you’ll work on infrastructure customers rely on today and build for what’s next, where performance, security, and resilience matter.

This is a high accountability environment where bold ideas drive real innovation for our customers, partners, and industry. The work is challenging, expectations are clear, and trust is built into how we operate. If you’re ready to take ownership, deliver meaningful impact, and help shape the future of AI‑ready connectivity, join us today.

Build What’s Next at Lumen

Lumen’s paid, 10-week summer internship program gives you meaningful work, mentorship, professional development, and connections with peers and leaders.

To help you find the best fit, explore the pathway roles:

Each pathway connects you with multiple roles that share related skills and interests, so you can discover more ways to build what’s next at Lumen.

Your Impact

People and AI systems need trusted knowledge to make decisions and get work done. In the roles you may be considered for, you’ll help research, organize, connect, govern, and activate information so it is easier to find, understand, and use.

Assignments may span research, enterprise intelligence, knowledge management, content strategy, information architecture, AI knowledge systems, sales enablement, governance, legal, HR, learning, communications, or transformation—giving you a chance to turn complex information into useful resources and smarter experiences.

What You May Work On
  • Conduct research and synthesize complex information to support business decisions, customer needs, strategic initiatives, legal or policy work, and emerging technology efforts
  • Improve how knowledge, content, policies, playbooks, and information are structured, governed, shared, and maintained
  • Support AI-enabled knowledge systems, enterprise search, content platforms, knowledge repositories, or agent‑ready information
  • Create resources, communications, learning content, or sales enablement materials that help employees and customers find and apply the right information
  • Analyze information flows and partner with teams across security, governance, AI, sales, transformation, legal, HR, and other functions to improve access, usability, consistency, and decision‑making
What You’ll Bring

We're seeking students who are energized by solving problems, asking questions, and continuously learning.

Successful candidates often demonstrate:

  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills
  • Curiosity and a desire to explore, research, and understand complex topics
  • Ability to synthesize information and identify what is most relevant for different audiences
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and sound judgment
  • Comfort learning new technologies, information platforms, and AI‑enabled tools
  • Collaboration, stakeholder engagement, initiative, adaptability, and a growth mindset

Prior experience with research, writing, content management, knowledge systems, information architecture, policy, learning resources, communications, AI tools, or documentation will be especially beneficial to candidates in this pathway.

You must be enrolled at an accredited college or university at the time of the internship. We primarily seek rising seniors graduating between August 2027 and June 2028; students graduating in 2029 may also be considered.

Students from a variety of academic backgrounds may be a strong fit, including:

  • Information Science, Information Systems, Knowledge Management, or Library & Information Science
  • Communications, Journalism, English, Technical Writing, Marketing, or Education
  • Business Administration, Human Resources, Organizational Leadership, Legal Studies, Public Policy, Political Science, or Social Sciences
  • Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or Engineering

Students from other disciplines who enjoy research, synthesizing information, solving problems, and helping others make informed decisions are also encouraged to apply.

Compensation

Intern pay ranges: $26–$46 per hour.

Compensation is based on your academic level, role classification (technical vs. non-technical), experience, and geographic location.

We believe potential matters as much as experience. During the selection process, we’ll consider how you approach problems, communicate ideas, learn, collaborate, show business curiosity, and demonstrate initiative and growth potential.
