Job summary

Blue Ocean Ventures is seeking an Enterprise Data Architect to lead the design and delivery of enterprise data platforms with a focus on AWS, Databricks, governance, and AI/GenAI architecture within the insurance domain.

The role requires extensive experience across data engineering and architecture, with strong hands-on Databricks and cloud capabilities. You will influence multiple stakeholders and drive data strategy, governance, and scalable data solutions in a large-scale Agile environment.

Qualifications

• 20+ years of overall technology experience.
• 8+ years in data engineering, data architecture, or data platform architecture.
• Strong insurance industry experience.
• 8+ years of hands‑on Databricks experience.
• Expert knowledge of AWS, Delta Lake, Medallion Architecture, Python, PySpark, and SQL.
• Experience designing real-time and near-real-time data platforms using Kafka and event-driven architecture.
• Strong understanding of JSON, APIs, data modelling, data lineage, and canonical data models.
• Experience with enterprise data strategy, data mesh/fabric, metadata, cataloguing, governance, stewardship, and data quality frameworks such as Databricks DQX.
• Experience with platform rationalisation, lifecycle governance, and standards-as-code in CI/CD.
• Knowledge of AI/GenAI architecture, including vector databases, embeddings, context management, and AI gateways.
• Understanding of privacy, explainability, bias mitigation, and responsible AI.
• Ability to influence engineering, architecture, analytics, security, and business stakeholders.
• Hands‑on development mindset and experience delivering large-scale Agile transformation programs.
