Job summary

ECS Federal LLC is seeking an Enterprise Architect - Data & Employee Systems (Databricks) to work remotely. This role designs and owns the enterprise data architecture for employee data, using Databricks as the core platform, translating policy, data standards, and business logic into a secure, scalable architecture.

You will lead end-to-end data architecture for HR data, establish governance, security, and cost optimization, and collaborate with HR, Legal, and IT to produce architecture

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with Databricks including Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Workflows
• Proven experience designing enterprise-level data architecture for HR/employee data
• Understanding of data governance, privacy regulations, and compliance standards
• Ability to translate business and legal policy into technical specifications
• Experience with data modeling and cloud platforms

Responsibilities

• Architecture design end-to-end data architecture for employee data on Databricks, including data lakehouse structure, pipelines, and governance layers
• Policy & Standards translation of data privacy, retention, access control into concrete architecture and data models
• Encode business rules (eligibility, compensation logic, org hierarchy) into the data architecture
• Define data access controls, lineage tracking, and audit mechanisms using Databricks Unity Catalog or equivalent tools
• Set best practices for Databricks usage across the organization (Delta Lake, workflows, cluster management, cost optimization)
• Collaborate with data engineers, security teams, HR systems owners, and compliance officers to meet technical and regulatory needs
• Maintain architecture diagrams, data dictionaries, and a roadmap for evolving the employee data platform

ECS is seeking an Enterprise Architect - Data & Employee Systems (Databricks) to work remotely. This role designs and owns the enterprise data architecture for employee data, using Databricks as the core platform. The person in this role translates company policy, data standards, and business logic into a secure, scalable, and compliant architecture that other teams build on.

Key Responsibilities

• Architecture Design end-to-end data architecture for employee data (HR, payroll, benefits, performance, etc.) on Databricks, including data lakehouse structure, pipelines, and governance layers.
• Policy & Standards Translation Convert company policy (e.g., data privacy, retention, access control) and industry standards (e.g., GDPR, SOC 2, HIPAA where relevant) into concrete technical architecture and data models.
• Business Logic Implementation Partner with HR, Legal, and business stakeholders to encode business rules (eligibility, compensation logic, org hierarchy, etc.) directly into the data architecture.
• Governance & Security Define data access controls, lineage tracking, and audit mechanisms using Databricks Unity Catalog or equivalent governance tools.
• Platform Leadership Set best practices for Databricks usage across the organization — including Delta Lake, workflows, cluster management, and cost optimization.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration Work with data engineers, security teams, HR systems owners, and compliance officers to ensure the architecture meets both technical and regulatory needs.
• Documentation & Roadmap Maintain architecture diagrams, data dictionaries, and a roadmap for evolving the employee data platform.

Salary Range: $150,000 - $170,000

Required Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with Databricks (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Workflows, cluster/compute management)
• Proven experience designing enterprise-level data architecture, ideally for HR/employee data or other sensitive datasets
• Solid understanding of data governance, privacy regulations, and compliance standards
• Ability to translate business and legal policy into technical specifications
• Experience with data modeling (dimensional modeling, master data management)
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) since Databricks runs on top of these
• Strong communication skills to work across technical and non-technical stakeholders (HR, Legal, IT, Compliance)

Desired Skills

• Certification in Databricks (e.g., Databricks Certified Data Engineer or Architect)
• Experience with HRIS platforms (Peoplesoft,Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, etc.) and integrating them into a data lakehouse
• Background in enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF, Zachman)
