Storm Duty Requirements

Tampa Electric and its sister companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.

Responding to storms will be considered a condition of employment.

Title: Enterprise Analytics Data Engineer

Position Overview

The Data Architects responsible for the “back end” components of the organization's BIA environment from standards, architecture, and design perspectives. Overall responsibility for the implementation and support of the data movement and engineering processes required to populate the organization's custom-built analytic data structures (e.g., staging areas, data warehouse and data marts) as well as the design of these structures. Responsible for the strategy and design related to the ‘federation’ of custom-built data architecture with vendor provided solutions. Provides technical oversight and assures the quality of the work done by data analysts and data engineers and developers. Serve as a subject matter expert with significant, recent hands‑on experience with a state‑of‑the‑art data integration and cleansing tools available in the SAP and Azure platforms.

Focus Areas
  • Expert‑level SQL, Python, and ETL/ELT pipeline design using tools like dbt, Fivetran, and Airbyte. Proficient in both batch and streaming architectures to support high‑volume enterprise workloads.
  • Hands‑on experience with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) and lakehouse platforms such as Databricks and Delta Lake. Ability to build and maintain scalable, cost‑optimized infrastructure using Terraform or equivalent IaC tooling.
  • Strong foundation in dimensional modeling, star schema design, and slowly changing dimensions. Experience implementing enterprise‑grade semantic layers and dbt best practices across staging, marts, and reusable macros.
  • Proficient in workflow orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster) with experience building CI/CD pipelines for data products. Comfortable with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and managing SLA‑driven production environments.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Define and evolve the data architecture in alignment with enterprise standards to support diverse use cases such as reporting, OLAP, dashboards, data mining, and statistical analysis. Ensure the architecture meets operational requirements including scalability, security, reliability, and flexibility. Determine the appropriate deployment environment, whether cloud‑based or on‑premise. 25%
  2. Establish best practices for source data analysis, ETL design and documentation, data federation across platforms, business rule placement with the Information Architect, ETL testing and release management with the Change Coordinator, database‑level security with DBAs, and data masking, anonymization, and tokenization. 15%
  3. Translate user requirements into data models and supporting applications by guiding data analysts in source analysis, advising ETL developers, and designing logical and physical analytic data structures. Deploy metadata tools to document data sources, analytic structures, semantic layers, and BI applications; implement security for data integration and cleansing tools; collaborate on support environments and release management practices; oversee the operational environment; and work with DBAs and operations teams to monitor and optimize ETL and data structure performance. 15%
  4. Accountable for the quality of data model and ETL application deliverables and responsible for establishing and managing QA functions including testing and peer reviews. 15%
  5. Provide technical oversight of the activities of ETL developers and data analysts and provide coaching and mentoring to these BIA team members regarding technical skills and competencies. 15%
  6. Serve as a technical subject matter expert to provide consultation for BIA‑related initiatives. 15%

Key Internal: Stakeholders of the BIA Solution.

Key External: SAP, Microsoft, Oracle, Consultants (System Integrators, Offshore Teams), Contractors, Customers, Vendors.

Qualifications
Education

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Information/Computer Science, Data/Information Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems, or equivalent discipline.

Preferred: At least one professional certification in specific job‑related disciplines preferred in addition to the requirements above.

Direct Experience

Required: 7 years of direct work experience performing the duties of this position or closely related duties.

Hands‑on experience with state‑of‑the‑art platforms: SAP BW4/HANA, HANA Enterprise, SQL Server, Oracle, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft PowerBI.

Preferred Experience

Utility experience (gas or electric).

Experience working in large public or private‑sector organizations.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)
  • Deep knowledge of and experience with SAP and Microsoft Azure suites (ETL, service bus and data quality tool components) and understanding of SAP HANA, SQL Server, Oracle, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft PowerBI platforms and ability to provide thought leadership regarding their deployment.
  • Deep knowledge of and experience in establishing ETL application design standards as well as in designing and implementing such applications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Electric Grid Solutions such as ADMS, EMS, AMI/MDM, Intergraph GIS.
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (Machine Learning etc.), Blockchain.
  • Ability to assess emerging business & regulatory changes and articulate how these can positively impact the Company.
