Job summary

Sisters of Mercy of the Americas in Watchung, NJ is seeking a compassionate Enrichment Coordinator to develop and lead meaningful programs that enrich the lives of our Sisters and residents. Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or equivalent in a related field.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in gerontology, long-term care, memory care, or working with individuals living with dementia.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to transport residents in an accessible van.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and lead recreational, educational, spiritual, and social enrichment programs.
  • Develop person-centered activities that promote wellness, comfort, and quality of life.
  • Coordinate group activities, therapeutic programs, celebrations, outings, music, games, and special events.
  • Build relationships with community organizations, churches, schools, and volunteers to enhance programming.
  • Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers supporting enrichment activities.
  • Create and distribute monthly activity calendars and maintain attendance records.
  • Ensure programming meets the unique interests and needs of each Sister and resident, including those living with dementia.
  • Assist with transportation for outings using an accessible vehicle when needed.
  • Manage enrichment supplies and operate within the department budget.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support individualized care and programming.
  • Promote family involvement and meaningful social engagement.
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a safe, welcoming environment.
  • Participate in occasional evening and weekend programming.

Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

Qualifications

Required

  • Ability to effectively communicate and engage with individuals experiencing dementia.
  • Experience coordinating activities, programs, or events.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to transport residents in an accessible van.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Preferred
  • Experience in healthcare, senior living, or a faith-based organization.
  • Knowledge of person-centered dementia care practices.
  • Experience training, mentoring, or coordinating staff and volunteers.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Appreciation for the traditions and mission of the Sisters of Mercy and the Catholic Church.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and perform daily physical activities.
  • Ability to assist residents during activities as needed.
  • Clear vision, hearing, and verbal communication skills.
