Job Description

Purpose: To plan, organize, and present instruction and instructional environments to help students learn subject matter and skills that contribute to their education and social development.

Supervises: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• A. Major Function: Management of Instructional Time The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment ready at the start of the lesson, gets the class started quickly, gets students on task, and maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.
• B. Major Function: Management of Student Behavior The teacher has established rules and procedures for routine matters, verbal participation, and student movement, monitors behavior, stops inappropriate behavior promptly, and maintains student dignity.
• C. Major Function: Instructional Presentation The teacher begins the lesson with a review, introduces objectives, speaks fluently, presents concepts understandably, provides examples, assigns tasks, manages pace, makes transitions efficiently, and summarizes the lesson.
• D. Major Function: Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance The teacher sets clear standards, circulates during class work to check performance, uses oral and written checks, and poses questions clearly.
• E. Major Function: Instructional Feedback The teacher provides feedback on in‑class and out‑of‑class work, affirms correct responses, and offers sustaining feedback after incorrect or no response.
• F. Major Function: Facilitating Instruction The teacher develops an instructional plan aligned with curricular goals, uses diagnostic information, maintains accurate records, matches objectives and strategies to student needs, and uses available resources to support instruction.
• G. Major Function: Interacting Within the Education Environment The teacher treats all students fairly and interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and the community.
• H. Major Function: Performing Non‑Instructional Duties The teacher carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned, adheres to laws and policies, follows a professional development plan, and demonstrates growth.
