At the State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) we are recruiting for a Durational English Instructor to join our team at Platt Technical High School in Milford, CT with a position end date of February 25th, 2027.

We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic English Instructor who is committed to fostering a rigorous, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for all students. The ideal candidate brings strong content knowledge in high school English curricula along with a thoughtful, student-centered approach to planning, instruction, and assessment. This role requires intentional lesson design that meets diverse learning needs through differentiation, collaboration with support staff, and adherence to individualized education plans.

The English Instructor will cultivate a classroom culture grounded in mutual respect, intellectual curiosity, and high expectations, while effectively managing procedures and student behavior to maximize learning opportunities. Through clear communication, purposeful questioning, and responsive instruction, the successful candidate will actively engage students in meaningful learning experiences aligned with established curriculum standards.

To be considered for this position, English Instructors must possess an active State of Connecticut teaching certificate in one of the following areas: 015 English, 4–12.

Position Highlights

• Durational Position: Ends February 25, 2027
• Schedule: first shift, full time (35 hours per week) Monday through Friday.
• Location: Platt Technical High School, in Milford, CT.
• Salary: VS02, derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers.
• Academic Calendar: CTECS follows a ten-month academic calendar (188 days per year.)

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System this class is accountable for educating students in academic and trade coursework.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Responsibility Area #1: Planning and Preparation

• Engage in intentional planning to prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, use appropriate techniques, and serve the needs of all learners in the classroom through differentiation
• Knowledge of English content and pedagogy of all high school English curricula
• Understand the varied needs of each student
• Work collaboratively with guidance personnel and other support service educators to assist students with special programming; ensure IEP and 504 accommodations/modifications are implemented
• Set instructional goals and outcomes
• Knowledge and use of varied instructional practices and resources
• Effectively design instructional learning opportunities
• Effectively design assessments

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Professional experiences related to the field of teaching English.
• Experience with 21st century standards-based lesson planning aligned to the CT Core Standards in English Language Arts.
• Experience with varied assessments to inform instruction and promote learning.
• Experience fostering and facilitating learning and classroom management.
• Experience communicating ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Experience working effectively and collaboratively with others.
• Experience with organizational and problem solving skills.
• Experience in teaching or substitute teaching and be able to demonstrate varied methods of lesson delivery, assessing student knowledge, and the use of educational technology. This may include involvement in student/community activities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents must possess at time of appointment a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education in accordance with the Certification Regulations Concerning State Educator Certificates, Permits and Authorizations, with a secondary school endorsement.
