Job summary

Sylvania seeks an English Language Learner (ELL) supporter contracted through EDUStaff. The role provides direct support for EL students, families, and staff, including tutoring and aiding in grant certification.

The ideal candidate will collaborate with teachers and administrators to enhance language development, equity, and outreach across programs. Responsibilities include tutoring, planning parent engagement activities, and assisting with program delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred with ESL/bilingual endorsement.
  • Experience communicating with students, families, and school staff.
  • Knowledge of Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) and WIDA standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic assistance and tutoring for EL students before, during, and after school and in summer.
  • Plan and implement parent involvement activities and create outreach materials for EL families.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the school or administrator.

Successful English Language Learner (ELL) candidate will be contracted through EDUStaff, a third party vendor.

Job Summary

This posision provides direct support for students, parents and families of Entlish Lanuage Learners. He/She may complete or assist in the completion of the semi-annual grant certification.

Essential duties and responsibilities
  • Provide academic assistance and tutoring for EL students. This support will be scheduled during, before and after school, as well as during the summer
  • Plan and implement parent involvement activities. Create promotional pieces to increase outreach and communication to EL parents and other stakeholders
  • Carry out other duties as assigned

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Preference given to those holding a valid Michigan teaching license with ESL or bilingual endorsement
Experience, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and skills necessary to effectively communicate with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders
  • Knowledge of Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol
  • Knowledge of WIDA English Language Development Standards and state assessments
  • Knowledge of ELL program and service delivery models
  • Exposure to the latest research and new practices that address the needs of EL students
  • A high degree of patience, ability and willingness to learn new skills
  • Prefer Burmese bilingual candidate
Physical Demands

Required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Other Skills and Abilities

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, students and parents; skill in oral and written communication.

Additional Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds such as books and teaching material. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The ability to travel to other building is required. The position requires the individual to sometimes work irregular or extended work hours and meet multiple demands from several people.
