Job summary

University of California Merced seeks Learning Assistants/Tutors for Civil & Environmental Engineering to support a range of core engineering courses in AY 2026-2027. The role emphasizes facilitation, discussion leadership, and active student engagement.

Qualifications include being an undergraduate UC Merced student with a minimum 3.0 GPA and strong communication skills. Training will be provided, with multiple course offerings and an ongoing review process through May 2027.

Qualifications

• Desire to enhance instruction in engineering classes.
• Interest in technology-mediated learning tools in engineering.
• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at UC Merced.
• Grade of "B" or higher in the course you are requesting to be a Learning Assistant/Tutor for.
• Are in good standing at the University with at least a 3.0 GPA.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Awareness of different learning styles and student needs.
• Ability to apply study strategies, organization, and time management in sessions.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate discussion with groups of students in lecture by asking questions to help learn materials.
• Attend weekly meetings with course instructor and TAs to prepare for sessions.
• Participate in trainings and a teaching seminar course as a newly hired Learning Assistant.
