You will interpret results to inform design decisions, prepare validation plans, and document findings while collaborating with design, testing, and program stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with CFD, thermal analysis, and aircraft thermal systems.
  • Strong background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.

SUMMARYThe Professional, Engineering - Thermodynamics is responsible for performing advanced thermodynamic, fluid-flow, heat-transfer, and computational fluid dynamics analyses in support of aircraft design, testing, and performance optimization. This position evaluates complex coupled fluid-heat transfer challenges, supports aircraft right-sizing and design decisions, prepares and documents analysis and test results, and develops engineering practice documentation to support consistent technical execution.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSPerform complex computational analyses involving coupled fluid-heat transfer, pipe network flow, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and aircraft-related thermal challengesConduct internal flow CFD analysis to support aircraft design, system performance, and component sizing decisionsInterpret analysis results within the context of aircraft design requirements, right-sizing, reliability, safety, and performance objectivesPrepare engineering test plans for analysis validation, ground testing, flight testing, and related technical evaluationsDocument analysis results, assumptions, methodologies, ground test findings, flight test findings, and technical recommendationsDevelop, write, and update engineering practice documents, procedures, and technical standards as requiredUse CFD, finite element, CAD, and simulation tools to model complex thermal-fluid behavior and support design trade studiesCollaborate with engineering, design, testing, and program stakeholders to communicate results and support informed technical decisionsComply with company policies and procedures and perform other duties as assignedKNOWLEDGEAdvanced knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, internal flow analysis, and coupled fluid-thermal systemsKnowledge of CFD analysis methods, finite element analysis concepts, aircraft system performance, and in-flight icing considerationsWorking knowledge of Star-CCM+, Ansys Fluent, SpaceClaim, SimCenter3D, and Microsoft Office products, including advanced ExcelFamiliarity with inlet and outlet design, pipe network flow, test planning, ground testing, and flight test documentationKnowledge of programming, complex codes, Unix operating systems, high-performance computing interfaces, and languages such as Fortran, Visual Basic, C++, C#, or Python is preferredCOMPETENCIESStrong analytical thinking and technical problem-solvingClear and professional written and verbal communicationAttention to detail in analysis, documentation, validation, and reportingAbility to translate complex technical results into practical design recommendationsSelf-motivated, innovative, and collaborative team approachAbility to manage priorities, deadlines, and short-term travel assignments as requiredEXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONMaster’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field requiredCoursework or experience in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, in-flight icing, CFD analysis, and thermal systems requiredMinimum of five to eight years of experience in internal flow CFD analysis requiredExperience performing complex CFD and finite element analyses requiredExperience with inlet/outlet design and analysis, high-performance computing, or programming is preferredWORKING CONDITIONSProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computerRepetitive use of the hands, wrists, and arms due to computer usageWork is primarily performed in an office or engineering environment with occasional exposure to test, laboratory, aircraft, or shop environmentsShort-term travel may be required to support testing, technical reviews, or project assignmentsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the positionWORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCEMust be legally authorized to work in the United StatesIf a security clearance is required:Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearance requirementsSuccessful candidates must be able to obtain required Program Access approval, if applicable
