Job summary

Q.E.D Systems Inc. is seeking an experienced Steam Critical Spares Engineering Technician in Virginia Beach. The role focuses on supporting Amphibious Surface Ship steam propulsion equipment, inspection, procurement, overhaul, refurbishment, and life cycle logistics.

The candidate will work with a proficient engineering team, manage material movements, and serve as SME for steam propulsion systems. Travel to facilities will be required to support engineering oversight and QA checkpoints.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in maintenance and modernization of steam or naval propulsion on US Navy ships.
• 5+ years managing engineering functions for Amphibious Ships and Steam Propulsion components.
• Experience with US Navy procedures and repair processes for steam systems.
• Proficient with Navy drawings and technical manuals (NSI).
• Knowledge of Quality Control processes and industrial repair oversight.

Responsibilities

• Work as part of a skilled engineering team in office and on-site at repair facilities.
• Manage and track material movements; perform warehouse and inventory control.
• Serve as SME for steam propulsion systems and related repair processes.
• Build relationships with customers; represent Q.E.D Systems as an engineering professional.
• Coordinate with repair facilities on oversight, QA checkpoints, and SME guidance.
• Travel between office and facilities; some extended travel may be required.

An established engineering firm has an immediate opening in its Virginia Beach office for a Steam Critical Spares Engineering Technician. The Engineering Technician will be responsible for producing work for Amphibious Surface Ship Steam Propulsion Plant Equipment Engineering, Inspection/Assessment, Procurement, Overhaul, Refurbishment, logistics support, and life cycle support.

Job Duties:

• Working as part of a highly proficient and skilled engineering team in an office environment and onsite at industrial repair facilities.
• Manage and track material movements and perform warehouse management and inventory control functions.
• Perform duties as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the area of steam propulsion and auxiliary support equipment and repair processes.
• Build professional relationships with Customer, while representing QED Systems Inc. as a knowledgeable engineering professional.
• Build strong working relationships with industrial repair facilities in the conduct of engineering oversight, Quality Assurance checkpoints and subject matter expertise, individually or as part of a team.
• Travel will be required between office and repair facilities. Some travel may extend outside of the area for extended periods.

Qualifications:

• Target seven (7) years of engineering experience in the performance of conventional steam or nuclear propulsion equipment maintenance and modernization on U.S. Navy ships. Experience can be obtained concurrently.
• Target five (5) years of specialized experience managing engineering functions and processes for U.S. Navy Amphibious Ships, Steam Propulsion Plants, and associated equipment, piping, valves and systems.
• Specialized experience required in US Navy technical procedures and repair procedures for steam system components.
• Strong knowledge of drawings, Navy Standard Items (NSI), technical manuals and other technical reference material.
• Strong working knowledge of Quality Control processes, MIC Level 1 material handling and engineering oversight of various industrial repair facilities and repair processes
• Critical thinking skills, attention to detail and ability to perform critical engineering oversight while working alone or as part of a team.
• Ability to lift, carry and transport up to 30 lbs.

Education:

Target Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, or naval/marine engineering) from an accredited college or university.

Security Clearance:

U.S. citizenship required. Must meet and maintain eligibility for U.S. Secret Clearance and be able to access military facilities, naval shipyards, and private shipyards.
