Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking an Engineering Tech Support – Level 2 in the Space Sector, to join the team in Dulles, VA. The role focuses on integration and test of spacecraft components, harness assemblies, and electrical hardware with strict quality controls.

You will read engineering drawings, follow procedures, and collaborate with engineers and leads to ensure on-time, compliant delivery. A 9/80 schedule, onsite work, and travel up to 25% are included.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent plus 2 years related experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Top-Secret security clearance.
• Basic knowledge of electronics and electrical measurements (AC/DC voltage, current, resistance, grounding).
• Knowledge of mechanical troubleshooting techniques.
• Understanding of clean room operations and spacecraft handling protocols.

Responsibilities

• Interpret detailed work instructions, electrical schematics, wire lists, and complex engineering documentation.
• Assemble electromechanical, electronic components, and spacecraft wire harness assemblies.
• Support the integration of critical spaceflight electrical hardware with a high level of attention to detail, safety, and quality.
• Adhere 100% to established ISO processes, cleanroom protocols, Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) controls, hazardous material handling requirements, and operational procedures.
• Demonstrate general technical knowledge in electrical/mechanical assemblies, use of common hand tools, as well as electrical measuring devices (multimeters, megohmmeters, LCR meters).
• Interact daily with work center management, engineers, and mechanical/electrical leads to communicate work status and resolve technical issues.
• Work effectively within a diverse team, accept constructive feedback from Safety and Quality personnel.
• Exhibit strong organizational skills, adaptability, precision, and a proactive mindset with a commitment to mission success.
• Maintain flexibility to support off-shift work, weekends, overtime, and up to 25% domestic travel for launch campaign support.

Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking an Engineering Tech Support – Level 2 to join our team in Dulles, VA. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work.

The Engineering Tech Support will provide technical support for Integration and Test (I&T) of spacecraft components, performing tasks such as integration of electrical wire harnesses, cables, and electronic components, performing electrical bonding and continuity testing, as well as using mechanical fasteners and hand tools. The role involves reading and interpreting work instructions, electrical schematics, and engineering drawings, and executing work with a focus on accuracy, completeness, and hardware quality while strictly following company procedures. The successful candidate will deliver timely status updates and flag technical issues to shop leads and Work Center management, ensuring any potential impacts to quality or schedule are addressed promptly. This position requires strong attention to detail, effective communication, adherence to rigorous quality and safety protocols, and the ability to operate as a strong team-oriented individual who is driven to achieve product quality and customer satisfaction.

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

In this job, you will:

Basic Qualifications:

• Ability to lift and position objects weighing up to 50 pounds.


• Ability to perform repetitive motion tasks such as standing, bending, squatting, leaning, working with tool tethers.


• Must be able to work flexible shifts, including 2nd and 3rd shift schedules, weekends, and overtime as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

• NASA-STD-8739.4 (crimping, cabling, and harnessing) or IPC/WHMA-A-620 with Space Addendum.


• NASA-STD-8739.3 or IPC-J-STD-001 (soldering) certifications.


• Flight hardware integration and spacecraft processing experience.


• Certifications in flight epoxy bonding.


• Aerospace/Satellite Integration & electrical harness installations.

Primary Level Salary Range: $56,000.00 - $93,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
