Job summary

Serco Inc. seeks an Engineering Tech to assemble, wire, and integrate automated turnstiles, gates, and access control at client sites. You will perform mechanical and low-voltage electrical work and troubleshoot to ensure secure, seamless integration with security software.

Active DoD Secret clearance and U.S. citizenship are required. Travel up to 75% across CONUS is expected, with on-site installations and customer training upon project completion.

Qualifications

• Active DoW Secret clearance required.
• Citizenship: U.S. required.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 3 years in physical security installation, locksmithing, low-voltage electrical work, or construction.
• Excellent communication and analytical skills.
• Proficient with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
• Willingness to travel up to 75% (CONUS).
• Ability to obtain U.S. Passport and basic hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Unpack, position, level, and anchor full-height turnstiles and gates into concrete using power tools.
• Install conduit paths between junction points and control cabinets.
• Run and terminate low-voltage wiring; connect power supplies and relays.
• Wire and configure badge readers, biometric scanners, barcodes, and visitor systems.
• Perform functional testing of sensors, barriers, and fail-safes; troubleshoot issues.
• Complete daily field reports, sign-off sheets, and photo documentation via mobile apps.
• Provide basic system walk-throughs and training to end-users at project completion.

Position Description & Qualifications

The Engineering Tech is responsible for the physical assembly, mounting, wiring, and integration of automated turnstiles, vehicle high speed gates, and physical access control systems at various client sites. In this role you will perform installation of various mechanical and electrical subunits concentrated with Automated Access Control Points. The blended knowledge needed will be that of mechanical assembly, low-voltage electrical work, and technical troubleshooting to ensure systems operate safely and integrate seamlessly with security software.

Must have an active U.S. Department of War (DoW) Secret security clearance.

In This Role, You Will

• Unpack, position, level, and anchor full-height turnstiles and high speed vehicle gates and associated control cabinets into concrete using power tools and expansion bolts.
• Install conduit paths using various types of conduit between junction points and control cabinets.
• Run, terminate, and dress low-voltage wiring; connect power supplies, relays, and communication lines according to schematics.
• Wire and configure peripheral devices including badge readers, biometric scanners, barcodes, and visitor management systems.
• Perform functional testing of optical sensors, barrier speeds, and emergency fail-safe overrides; troubleshoot hardware and wiring issues.
• Complete daily field reports, sign-off sheets, and photo documentation of finished installations via mobile reporting apps.
• Provide basic system walk-throughs and operational training to end-users or site managers upon project completion.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have

• An active or current DoW Secret security clearance
• U.S. Citizenship required
• A High school diploma/GED
• Minimum 3 years of experience in physical security installation, commercial locksmithing, low-voltage electrical work, or commercial construction.
• Excellent communications and analytical skills
• To be proficient with MS Office products i.e., Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
• The ability to travel up to 75+% (CONUS)
• Ability to obtain a valid U.S Passport
• Ability to obtain basic mechanical/electrical hand tool set/kit

Additional Desired Experience And Skills

• Planning and executing retrofit, upgrade and sustainment of any Navy Physical Access Control Systems including but not limited to
• Certification from any major Gate operator or Turnstile manufacturer (Alvarado, Boon Edam, RSSI, Autogate)
• IP Based CCTV certifications, (Axis, Bosch)
• Various detection sensors, (Banner, IRB)
• Power distribution and interconnectivity
• Standard Operating Procedures, Test Readiness Review or SOVT
