Position Summary

The Engineering Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing manufacturing equipment, automated systems, robotic cells, and facility machinery to support safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role combines advanced mechanical maintenance expertise with technical knowledge of robotics, automation controls, PLCs, sensors, and manufacturing process improvements. The incumbent serves as a key technical resource for production, maintenance, and engineering teams, ensuring equipment reliability while supporting continuous improvement and automation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment and production systems.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, servo, and automation-related equipment failures.
  • Troubleshoot complex equipment issues to minimize downtime and restore production safely and efficiently.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, machine manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Utilize CMMS systems to document maintenance activities, repairs, and preventive maintenance work.
  • Must be comfortable working 2nd Shift hours: 3-11:30pm CST.
Robotics & Automation Support
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and support industrial robotic systems, robotic end-of-arm tooling, conveyors, vision systems, sensors, and automated material handling equipment.
  • Assist with robot programming, teaching, calibration, and recovery procedures.
  • Diagnose automation system faults utilizing PLC software, HMI interfaces, drives, and control systems.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and startup of new robotics and automation equipment.
  • Work with Engineering on automation upgrades, process optimization projects, and equipment improvements.
Engineering & Continuous Improvement
  • Partner with Engineering to improve equipment reliability, safety, and productivity.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
  • Recommend and implement mechanical and automation improvements to reduce downtime and maintenance costs.
  • Assist in development of maintenance procedures, standard work instructions, and equipment documentation.
  • Support capital projects including machine modifications, equipment relocations, and automation deployments.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all environmental, health, and safety requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, electrical safety, and other regulatory standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Identify and report safety risks and participate in corrective actions.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • Associate degree or Technical Diploma in Mechatronics, Robotics, Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of technical education, military training, trades certification, and related experience will be considered.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial maintenance, manufacturing maintenance, electromechanical maintenance, or automation support.
  • Experience maintaining automated manufacturing equipment in a production environment.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Experience supporting robotic systems in a manufacturing environment preferred.
Technical Skills

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb ladders, and work in manufacturing environments for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work around moving mechanical equipment and industrial machinery.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Robotics certification (FANUC, ABB, Yaskawa/Motoman, KUKA, Universal Robots, or equivalent).
  • Mechatronics certification.
  • Experience with vision inspection systems.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement training.
  • Welding and fabrication experience.

This position has the authority and responsibility to stop work if a condition poses a risk to safety, quality, or compliance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to office, warehouse, and plant environments. The work environment will require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in certain areas. Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
