Job summary

Dexcom, Inc. is seeking a Lab Technician to set up and operate test equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment in San Diego. You will execute engineering studies, participate in instrument qualification, and document results with precision across our CGM technologies.

Ideal candidates have 0-2 years of related experience, strong attention to detail, and solid communication skills. This role emphasizes safety, quality, and continuous improvement, with travel expected at low levels.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 0-2 years related experience in a manufacturing or lab setting preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics preferred.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills necessary for manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate laboratory test equipment per procedures.
  • Execute and provide feedback on engineering studies for process/test method development.
  • Perform qualification protocols with attention to detail for equipment, processes, and methods.
  • Analyze and record test results, document findings, and recommend solutions.
  • Support induction of new equipment including user requirements and calibration schedules.
  • Troubleshoot process-related issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist in creating and revising manufacturing/process documentation.
  • Conduct out of tolerance investigations and coordinate with engineers.
  • Assist in material acquisition for studies and builds.
  • Perform routine equipment verifications and coordinate external support as needed.
  • Support continuous improvement to optimize processes and methods.
  • Comply with safety, environmental, and quality requirements.

Job description

Meet the team:

Founded in 1999, Dexcom, Inc. provides continuous glucose monitoring technology to help patients and their clinicians better manage diabetes. Where you come in:
  • You will set up and operate laboratory test equipment and instrumentation per released procedures, protocols, or plans.
  • You will execute and provide feedback on engineering studies for process and test method development.
  • You will execute qualification protocols with high attention to detail for equipment, processes, and test methods.
  • You will analyze and record test results, prepare written documentation, communicate findings and recommend solutions.
  • You will support induction of new equipment and fixtures into Dexcom systems including: writing equipment user requirements, coordinating placement with Facilities, preparing equipment binder documents, and setting up calibration and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • You will support troubleshooting and diagnosis of process-related problems, recommend corrective actions, and implement solutions.
  • You will assist in creating and revising Manufacturing Process Instructions, Test Instructions, and other technical documentation.
  • You will conduct out of tolerance, out of calibration, and other similar preliminary investigation activities.
  • You will support acquisition and staging of materials for engineering studies and other manufacturing builds.
  • You will perform routine verifications of equipment and laboratory areas and report any issues to engineers or supervisors; engage with equipment vendors when external support is required.
  • You will support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to optimize process and test methods steps.
  • You will comply with safety, environmental, and quality requirements; highlight safety concerns in the working areas.

Additional preferred qualifications:
  • Able to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
  • Experience with PLCs, automated production equipment & processes, pneumatics, electro/mechanical systems and packaging/ kitting equipment
  • Proficient in learning new equipment functions, setups, software and tools
  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical documents related to equipment specifications
  • Technical writing skills as applied to manufacturing documentation and process development
  • Experience operating precision measurement and inspection systems to verify product dimensions, features, and quality requirements
  • Experience collecting, documenting, and analyzing measurement data for quality control and process verification

Experience and Education:
  • Typically requires a minimum of 0-2 years of related experience and a High School diploma/certificate or equivalent.
