Job summary

Bal Seal Engineering in Colorado Springs is seeking a hands-on manufacturing technician to operate machinery, perform fabricating tasks, and participate in 6S activities while identifying continuous improvement opportunities.

The role requires experience in machine shop environments, basic inspection tooling, GD&T on drawings, and strong teamwork. The successful candidate will assist with maintenance and data entry as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; manufacturing environment experience preferred.
  • Hands-on manufacturing technician with basic inspection tooling knowledge.
  • Familiarity with machining tolerances and GD&T per ASME Y14.5.

Responsibilities

  • Operate machinery and perform routine fabrication tasks.
  • Conduct 6S housekeeping, cleaning, and tool storage.
  • Assist in fixture design and data entry tasks.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and support repairs as needed.
  • Maintain safe, orderly work area and document processes accurately.

Reports to: Manufacturing Engineering or Machine Shop Supervisor

Job Summary: This position requires a “Hands On” approach that will involve actively operating machinery, hand tools, fabricating, performing 6S activities and proactively identifying continuous improvement opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate in designated continuous improvement activities as requested
  • Perform routine daily cleaning and preventative maintenance on machines, equipment, and tools as needed
  • May be required to design fixtures
  • Participate in all required training sessions
  • Keep work area neat and clean and store jigs, fixtures and tools in their designated areas
  • Complete all required data entry and paperwork in an accurate and timely manner
  • May need to troubleshoot issues related to manufacturing operations and implement repairs as needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Education
  • Machine shop experience preferred
  • High School Diploma or equivalent training institution Certification and/or demonstrated experience in a similar manufacturing environment
Experience
  • Experience with welding and laser marking processes and techniques a plus
  • Experience as a technician in a production, machine shop or similar technical environment preferred
  • Base knowledge of machining tolerances and process capabilities
  • Experience reading and using basic inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, height gage, etc.) preferred

  • Base knowledge of metallurgy (i.e. material strength, hardness, machinability, heat treatment processes) preferred
  • Proficiency in machining tolerances and process capabilities
  • Familiarity with inspection tools and methods
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work in a highly collaborative environment
  • Proficient mathematical skills including geometry and math conversions
  • Ability to and effectively and safely utilize various hand and power tools
Physical Requirements
  • Employee spends most of their day standing
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk
  • Occasionally will need to bend, stoop and squat
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
