Description

The Maritime Systems Division at Leidos is hiring an Electro-Mechanical Technician in San Diego, CA to join a fast-paced engineering group that rapid-prototyping a variety of ocean systems. The role requires full technical responsibility for custom development and prototyping across many technical disciplines. Team prototyping efforts span from real-world problem-solving, concept development, iterative design and testing, and product demonstrations.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Electrical assembly
    • Wire harness fabrication utilizing wire splicing, crimping, Molex connector installation and soldering on a multitude of different connectors and cable assemblies.
    • Circuit board component installation using approved soldering techniques for surface mount and through‑hole mount components on multi‑layer printed circuit boards.
    • Precision soldering, including through‑hole and surface‑mount technologies, wire splicing techniques, and adherence to IPC J‑STD requirements.
  • Mechanical assembly
    • Read, understand and follow engineering assembly drawings, bill of materials, manufacturing procedures, work instructions, and supporting documentation.
    • Use various hand and power tools such as drills, hex keys, torque wrenches, mallets, etc. to assemble mechanical components into larger assemblies.
    • Able to troubleshoot assembly issues under limited supervision.
    • Supports documentation standards by filling out serial number records, traveler records and work orders.
  • Encapsulated assembly
    • Work with common encapsulation materials (urethanes, silicone, epoxies, etc.) following required procedures and best practices.
    • Prepare components for casting (sanding, painting, fixturing).
    • Create molds (mixing materials, degassing, pouring, and post processing).
    • Pour polyurethanes and silicones.
  • Material cleaning and preparation
    • Cleans electrical and mechanical assembly parts per established procedures, using isopropyl alcohol, etc.
    • Prepares surfaces of parts using approved hand sanding techniques developed specifically for the application.
  • Lab and equipment
    • Maintains a clean, organized and safe work environment.
    • Manages lab equipment and assembly fixtures, supporting repair tasks, or seeking assistance of project personnel to keep all equipment in good working condition.
  • Electrical testing
    • Electrical testing of custom‑built assemblies using custom and COTS test equipment, utilizing in‑house test procedures.
    • Use various electrical spectrum test equipment including multi‑meters, ammeters, signal analyzers, network analyzers, oscilloscopes, tone generators, etc.
    • Digital logging of test results using Microsoft Office products.
Basic Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years of related experience.
  • Ability to obtain an interim SECRET security clearance, pending full SECRET.
  • Proficiency in precision soldering, including through‑hole and surface‑mount technologies, wire‑splicing techniques, and adherence to IPC J‑STD standards.
  • Experience reading schematics, blueprints, and ASME Y14 engineering drawings.
  • Experience with the operation and use of machine shop tools and woodworking shop tools (e.g., grinder, router, sander, bandsaw, sandblaster, etc.).
  • Hands‑on experience in electrical and mechanical assembly, soldering, and use of basic electrical test equipment.
  • Must be able to sand electrical and mechanical components (aluminum, brass, etc.) and follow specific instructions on the treatment or preparation of materials for subassembly production.
  • Self‑motivated, self‑sufficient, and detail‑oriented.
  • Able to successfully multi‑task.
  • Must keep workspace clean and free from grit, dust, etc.
  • Works well with others and communicates and understands verbal or written instructions.
  • Is not opposed to asking for help or seeking clarity of instructions if not sure how to proceed.
  • Average physical mobility to move around an office or lab environment, and ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • United States Navy Miniature/Microminiature Module Test and Repair (2M/MTR) Certification
  • Certification to IPC J‑STD‑001 (Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies); or other certifications in soldering electrical and electronic assemblies.
  • Certification to IPC‑A‑610 (Acceptability of Electronics Assemblies); or other certifications in electronics assembly and workmanship.
  • Certification to IPC‑WHMA‑A‑620 (Cable and Wire Harness Assembly); or other certifications in cables and wire harness and workmanship.
Pay Range

$48,100.00 - $86,950.00
