Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field.
• Experience with CEMS, PLC, DCS, SCADA and boiler control systems is preferred.
• Knowledge of medium- and high-voltage systems, switchgear, MCCs and transformers helpful.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support for CEMS, DCS, PLCs and instrumentation with troubleshooting and vendor coordination.
• Maintain engineering drawings, procedures and equipment records for regulatory compliance.
• Calibrate, test, maintain and troubleshoot plant instrumentation and control systems.
• Coordinate corrective, preventive, predictive, and emergency maintenance on electrical equipment up to 13.8 kV and 4160V.
• Assist in troubleshooting issues in coordination with IC&E Technicians, Operations, Maintenance and Engineering.
• Support plant testing, outages, and capital projects by installing equipment and verifying control functionality.
• Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements to improve efficiency and reliability.
• Maintain calibration records and plant drawings; ensure test equipment is calibrated.

Opportunity Summary

The Engineering Technician at the Shawville Generating Station plays a key role in maintaining safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations by directly calibrating, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment. This position supports and provides technical assistance for CEMS, PLC, DCS, SCADA, boiler, steam turbine, and power distribution systems through preventive and corrective maintenance while working closely with the station IC&E Technicians, Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to ensure compliance, improve reliability, minimize downtime, and optimize plant performance.

Occasional travel to the Warren and Blossburg satellite stations is required to provide technical and maintenance support as needed.

Your scope of responsibility as the Shawville Engineering Technician includes the following primary functions:

• Provide technical support for the CEMS, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), PLCs, instrumentation, and control systems by assisting the station IC&E Technicians with troubleshooting, coordinating with OEMs and vendors, and supporting software upgrades and system maintenance.
• Maintain engineering drawings, procedures, technical records, equipment files, and configuration documentation to support accurate plant documentation, configuration control, and regulatory compliance.
• Directly ensure proper calibration, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and installation of plant instrumentation and control systems, including control valves, transmitters, analyzers, motors, variable speed drives, fan dampers, and associated field devices.
• Coordinate and provide oversight of corrective, preventive, predictive, and emergency maintenance on plant electrical equipment, including 13.8 kV and 4160-volt switchgear, motor control centers, motors, transformers, batteries, chargers, inverters, and main generator excitation systems.
• Assist in troubleshooting operational, electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, and control system issues in coordination with the station IC&E Technicians Operations, Maintenance, Plant Engineering, OEMs, and technical specialists.
• Directly ensure proper calibration, maintaining, and troubleshooting boiler, steam turbine, and associated control systems, including combustion controls, burner management systems, turbine controls, feedwater controls, and condition monitoring equipment.
• Support plant testing, system modifications, outages, and capital projects by installing equipment, verifying control functionality, and coordinating activities with the station IC&E Technicians, Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, contractors, and vendors.
• Monitor equipment performance, analyze operational data, and recommend control system and reliability improvements to enhance plant efficiency, availability, and equipment life.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, calibration documentation, plant drawings, work orders, equipment databases, and vendor information while ensuring shop tools and test equipment remain calibrated and ready for use.
• Follow all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements by identifying hazards, implementing corrective actions, and properly handling hazardous materials and regulated waste.
• Support the Warren and Blossburg satellite stations as needed by providing technical assistance, troubleshooting, maintenance, and other operational support, with occasional travel to these locations.
• Perform other duties, special projects, and technical assignments as required to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.

Working Relationships

The Shawville Engineering Technician reports directly to the Maintenance Manager and receives general directions from plant management. This role involves interfacing with contractors and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) personnel to ensure necessary support and coordination.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions. Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame‑resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high‑voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post‑offer physical examination, drug screening, and post‑employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

The Engineering Technician works a standard Monday to Friday day‑shift schedule. This position will require extended hours, flexible shifts, weekends, holidays, and on‑call availability as needed to support plant operations and business needs. Occasional travel to the Warren and Blossburg satellite stations is required to provide technical and maintenance support as needed.

Compensation

This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $ to $ per hour, along with eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

Core Qualifications And Skills

• Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, knowledge and experience with Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS), Instrumentation and Control, Electronics Technology, Industrial Electrical Technology, or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent technical training or relevant industrial or military experience will be considered.
• Experience in power generation or other industrial facilities, with knowledge of steam plant operations, electrical maintenance, safe work practices, and applicable environmental and regulatory requirements.
• Comprehensive knowledge of medium‑and‑high‑voltage electrical systems and instrumentation, including switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, generator excitation systems, control valves, transmitters, analyzers, and field devices.
• Working knowledge of CEMS, PLC, DCS, SCADA, boiler control, combustion control, burner management, steam turbine control, and condition monitoring systems, with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot control system faults.
• Demonstrated ability to install, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot instrumentation, electrical, and control systems while supporting plant testing, outages, and system modifications.
• Proven ability to analyze equipment and control system performance, identify root causes, and recommend improvements that enhance plant reliability, efficiency, availability, and equipment life.
• Experience collaborating effectively with station IC&E Technicians, Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, contractors, and vendors to safely execute maintenance activities, outages, and capital or improvement projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interpret technical drawings and documentation, maintain accurate maintenance and calibration records, and communicate technical recommendations effectively.
• Ability to coordinate technical activities with contractors, OEM representatives, and plant personnel.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Maximo, issuing Purchase Orders, soliciting quotes, procurement of equipment and supplies.
• Experience preparing technical reports, maintaining engineering documentation, equipment records, and using plant information systems such as PI.
• Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
