Job summary

Merlin is seeking an Engineering Technician in the Orlando area to help maintain our world‑class attractions and facilities. You will perform preventative and corrective maintenance on rides, inspect safety systems, and diagnose mechanical/electrical issues to keep operations running smoothly.

The role emphasizes working at heights, utilizing hand and power tools, and collaborating with operations to deliver unforgettable guest experiences.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two years of vocational or technical training.
  • At least two years of engineering or maintenance experience.
  • Experience in technical, themed entertainment, attractions, or similar environments is desirable.
  • Professional qualification in a mechanical or electrical discipline is preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain a wide variety of equipment and systems.
  • Experience working in high-pressure environments and managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Performing preventative and corrective maintenance on rides, attractions, and site systems.
  • Conducting inspections and safety checks to ensure compliance with health, safety, and engineering standards.
  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  • Maintaining attraction reliability while minimizing downtime.
  • Supporting ride systems, life safety systems, emergency equipment, and AV installations.
  • Assisting with new equipment installations and annual maintenance projects.
  • Completing maintenance documentation and work orders accurately.
  • Maintaining clean, organized, and safe workspaces.
  • Collaborating with operations teams to ensure an exceptional guest experience.
  • Following all engineering and health & safety procedures.

We are looking for an Engineering Technician to help maintain the safety, reliability, and performance of our attractions, facilities, and supporting systems. From preventative maintenance and troubleshooting to supporting exciting site developments, you'll play a critical role in ensuring our guests enjoy a safe and memorable experience every day.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working at heights and climbing up to 200 feet as part of their daily responsibilities. They should also possess basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand and power tools.

This position operates on a four-day, 10-hour shift schedule. Typical shift hours are 4:30 AM to 2:00 PM for first shift and 2:00 PM to 1:00 AM for second shift. Team members have three days off each week, including one weekend day; however, schedules may vary based on operational and business needs.

What You'll Do

As an Engineering Technician, you'll be responsible for keeping our attractions and facilities operating at the highest standards. Your day may include:

  • Performing preventative and corrective maintenance on rides, attractions, and site systems.
  • Conducting inspections and safety checks to ensure compliance with health, safety, and engineering standards.
  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  • Maintaining attraction reliability while minimizing operational downtime.
  • Supporting ride systems, life safety systems, emergency equipment, and audio-visual installations.
  • Assisting with new equipment installations, site improvements, and annual maintenance projects.
  • Completing maintenance documentation and work orders accurately.
  • Maintaining clean, organized, and safe workspaces.
  • Collaborating with operations teams to ensure an exceptional guest experience.
  • Working safely and following all engineering and health & safety procedures.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking a motivated and dependable technician with a passion for safety, engineering, and delivering quality results.

Qualifications & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Technical Skills
  • Experience working with mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  • Comfortable inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment ranging from 24V DC to 480V AC.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and inspection processes.
  • Ability to use computers and maintenance management systems effectively.
Working Conditions

This role requires flexibility and a willingness to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to support operations.

You should be comfortable:
  • Working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Working at heights of 200+ feet.
  • Using lifts, ladders, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
  • Lifting up to 70 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Standing, walking, climbing, bending, and performing physical tasks throughout your shift.
