Inside the Role
The performance/durability operations technician is responsible for running multiple test cells/stands at peak efficiency, and ensuring quality of data meets the expectations of the engineering customer. The duties may encompass a wide range of responsibilities related to the testing of medium and heavy‑duty diesel engines. This includes the applicable setup of the engine, its components and exhaust after‑treatment systems. It also includes engine mechanical assembly and disassembly setups, and any necessary fabrication work. Test cell/stand problem identification and troubleshooting are included in the scope of responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
- Keep the test cells/stands running at peak efficiency and produce quality data that meets the expectations of the engineering customer.
- Set up the engine and its components and exhaust after‑treatment systems.
- Perform engine mechanical assembly and disassembly, and fabrication work.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues in test cells/stands.
Knowledge & Skills You Should Bring

- Strong mechanical skills and ability to work with hand tools.
- Computer skills (accessing/navigating service literature, work requests, MS365).

- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Understanding of principles or detailed operation of internal combustion engines.
- Ability to identify key items in electrical circuit diagram – measure (DMM) or calculate voltage, current, resistance.
- Familiarity with testing measurement instrumentation and sensors (emissions systems, thermocouples, transducers, accelerometers).
- Experience with axle assembly/repair (backlash, endplay, pattern check, setting/verification, etc.).
- Fabrication/Welding experience (MIG, TIG, etc.).
Exceptional Candidates Might Have
- Experience with alternative powertrain systems (Hybrid, BEV, fuel cell, e‑Motors, HV systems).
- ASE or State Mechanic Certifications min. 1: (diesel, electrical, Hybrid, engine repair, transmission/driveline) or OEM service training equivalent in lieu of ASE/State.
- Actively pursuing / enrolled in technical bachelor’s or associates degree program (NATEF or ABET accredited institute).
- Knowledge in engine testing, and mechanical engine assembly/disassembly.
- CDL “A” License Holder.
- NVH testing familiarity (use of chassis ears).
- PID Loop Controller experience.
- Engine and/or Chassis Dynamometer Testing Certificate.
