Job summary

Chromalox is seeking an Engineering Technician to support Engineering Product Development and R&D through hands-on testing, setup, and data collection. You will document results and assist with drawings and drawings-related data in a collaborative team.

Responsibilities include lab maintenance, reporting, and contributing to process improvements, with a focus on electrical and thermal testing and accurate documentation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on technical experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • SolidWorks and DraftSight experience is a plus.
  • LabVIEW and Arduino programming knowledge a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Experience performing electrical and thermal testing and writing reports.
  • Ability to present information to colleagues at all levels.
  • Degree in Mechanical, Applied Engr., or Manufacturing disciplines.
  • Lean Mfg. or Six Sigma certifications are a plus.

  • Set up and execute testing of experiments for product development and R&D, including metallurgical prep and examination, density testing, FLIR thermography, life cycle testing, and general heater testing.
  • Maintain the lab and equipment, including ordering supplies and keeping area clean.
  • Create SolidWorks / DraftSight drawings and ERP entries in support of product development and R&D.
  • Perform sourcing searches to procure required equipment, materials and services; process purchase requests as required.
  • Create test reports to document all test findings.
  • Contribute to additional efforts as requested and support continuous improvement.
  • Stay abreast of current manufacturing processes and technologies.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.

The Role:

The Engineering Technician supports Engineering Product Development and R&D activities by assisting with hands-on testing, experimental setup, metallurgical sample preparation, technical documentation, and drafting services. This role reports to the Advanced Manufacturing Manager with significant direction from the Director of Engineering. This role works closely with engineering personnel to prepare and execute tests, collect and document results, maintain accurate records, and support the development of drawings and related technical information. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while contributing to product development, process improvement, and research initiatives.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Support R&D activities as a primary support function, with hands-on testing, laboratory work, experiment preparation, data collection, and test documentation as the primary responsibilities.
  • Setup and execute testing of experiments associated with product development and R&D to include but not limited to metallurgical preparation and examination, compaction density testing, FLIR thermography, life cycle testing, and general heater testing.
  • Maintaining the lab and equipment, including ordering of supplies and keeping area clean.
  • Create SolidWorks / DraftSight drawings and ERP entry in support of product development and R&D.
  • Perform sourcing searches to procure required equipment, materials and services. Process purchase requests as required.
  • Creation of test reports to document all test findings.
  • Contribute to additional efforts as requested.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the philosophy of continuous improvement and multi-disciplined, problem-solving teams in all aspects of performance.
  • Stays abreast of current manufacturing processes and technologies.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on technical experience.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be functional in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and Draft sight a plus.
  • Functional in LabVIEW and Arduino programming a plus.
  • Ability to collect data and infer conclusions.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret Engr. Drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to perform intermediate to high level electrical and thermal testing and write reports.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from associates at all levels.

Additional qualifications that are a plus:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Applied Engr., or Manufacturing disciplines.
  • College accreditation/certificate or professional certification. Lean Mfg. or Six Sigma certifications.

Pay Rate: $25.00 - 42.00/hr
