Job summary

Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) is seeking an Engineering Technical Lead in San Diego, CA. This hands-on leadership role will guide a team in designing, testing, and deploying complex DoD software and hardware systems onboard Navy assets.

The ideal candidate has deep technical experience, strong leadership, and the ability to coordinate with government sponsors, warfighters, and senior engineers in a fast-paced, on-site environment. Clearance and field-testing expertise are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or other STEM field (or equivalent full-time professional experience).
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in the design, development, and management of complex software systems for the DoD.
• Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, as needed.
• Understanding of software development processes and the activities described by the Systems Engineering V-Model.
• Advanced troubleshooting skills across software, networks, hardware, and operational processes.

Responsibilities

• Define and Scope Solutions: document stakeholder needs to establish clear, prioritized requirements and success criteria.
• Design and Architect Systems: develop scalable hardware and software system designs balancing performance and sustainability.
• Tailor and Manage Program Approaches: assign experts, forecast gaps, and implement scalable processes and tools.
• Integrate, Deploy, and Validate Systems: lead deployment, installation, configuration, and support for DoD/Navy environments.
• Leverage Insights and Data: analyze feedback and performance trends to inform design directions.
