Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Support Technology/Manufacturing Engineering activities such as design, test, diagnostics, and modification of prototype systems.
  • Perform testing from schematics and instructions; design experiments and collect data for review.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing drawings and BOMs using CAD tools.
  • Develop CAD models and drawings from sketches and markups; design for manufacturability and testability.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide clear inputs.
  • Prepare layouts and detailed drawings of parts and assemblies.

UCT is looking for a talented Engineering Tech I to join us in Fremont, CA!

The Engineering Technician is responsible for supporting either the Technology Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering departments. Responsible for assisting with the assembly, diagnostics, and testing of complex electro‑mechanical sub‑systems and systems. If under Technology Engineering, responsible for design, documentation, build, and prototyping of mold and heater assembly tooling and fixturing. Works from verbal instructions and preliminary documentation to achieve results. Extended duties include developing knowledge and understanding of engineering practices and procedures and obtaining capabilities in design using CAD software.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports Technology/Manufacturing Engineering activities such as design, test, diagnostics, and modification of prototype systems.
  • Works from schematics, block diagrams, TC maps, and written and verbal instructions to perform testing and troubleshooting functions.
  • Performs testing using traditional engineering methods; designs experiments and collates data for review.
  • Implements GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) within assembly methods.
  • Provides written content and streamlines manufacturing methods, work instructions, and training materials.
  • Participates in design reviews with engineering staff. Provide clear thoughts & inputs.

Extended duties include:

  • Generates accurate/complete/clear manufacturing drawings of products using SolidWorks and Pro-Engineer.
  • Develops CAD models of parts and assemblies from sketches and mark‑ups.
  • Understands system design from concept through detailing and release for production.
  • Understands material, process, and other pertinent specifications needed for the design, drafting & manufacturing of mechanical components.
  • Creates assembly drawings and Bills of Material from assembly models.
  • Prepares layouts/models based on design specifications and creates detailed drawings of parts based on the layout/model.
  • Designs to cost goals and design for manufacturability and testability.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of component and system design utilizing SolidWorks Inventor, dependent on‑site needs.
  • Knowledge of mechanisms.
  • Basic knowledge of drawing standards, formatting, and dimensioning included basic GD&T.
  • Show initiative and a sense of ownership by learning to be self‑sufficient at tasks, but quick to ask questions when uncertain.
  • Demonstrates a serious commitment to accuracy and quality while meeting goals and deadlines.
  • Presents a professional, positive image that reflects well on the organization.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Educational/Certification Requirement:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; actively pursuing college courses for an engineering degree is given high consideration.

Work Experience:

  • 5-7 years of electro‑mechanical technician experience within a manufacturing environment required.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push, pull, and grasp.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

  • Ability to move arms, hands, and fingers.
  • Required to have visual acuity to perform assigned tasks
  • Ability to sit or stand for sustained periods of time.
  • Work is a manufacturing, office, and/or cleanroom environment.
  • Subject to hazards including electrical current, moving mechanical parts, and exposure to chemicals.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment where applicable.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $23.61 and $XX/[hour/year]; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including variable pay and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO (Paid Time Off) and parental leave), dependent on the position offered.
