Job summary

Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking an Engineering Support Technician to join the Electric Systems Unit. You will support engineers with CAD drafting, document control, and smart drawing management, turning concepts into precise drawings and enabling maintenance and capital projects.

The role emphasizes collaboration, attention to detail, and adherence to engineering standards, applicable regulations, and safety practices to keep our plants operating safely and efficiently.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in CAD software and drafting techniques.
  • Experience in a project support role, preferably in engineering, manufacturing, construction, or related.
  • CAD certification preferred.
  • Associate's degree or completion of an approved apprenticeship program preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Drafting, measuring, drawing, analyzing, and revising plans, maps, charts, schematics, 3D renderings, etc.
  • Prepare layout and design of technical project data
  • Prepare layouts, drawings, and designs according to engineering specs using CAD/CAE software
  • Act as document control specialist by archiving/copying drawings per procedures
  • Review drawings for completeness and compliance with engineering/design criteria and regulations
  • Research manuals, plans, catalogs, and records for project information
  • Coordinate and support projects by assisting PMs and technical leads in facility planning and installation
  • Comply with safety and health program for incident- and injury-free workplace

Engineering Support Technician

Join our Electric Systems Unit as an Engineering Support Technician and play a vital role in supporting the design and construction of maintenance and capital improvement projects that keep our plants operating safely and efficiently.

In this position, you'll collaborate with a team of engineers, providing essential support in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), drafting, document control, and smart drawing management. Your technical expertise and attention to detail will help bring critical infrastructure projects from concept to completion.

A day in the life of an Engineering Support Specialist may include:
  • Drafting, measuring, drawing, analyzing, and revising plans, maps, charts, schematics, 3D renderings, as-built and installation drawings; drafting finished plans; preparing product and equipment diagrams
  • Preparing layout and design of technical project data
  • Preparing layouts, drawings, and designs according to engineering specifications using CAD / CAE software
  • Acting as a document control specialist by archiving and copying drawings in accordance with procedures
  • Reviewing drawings and plans for completeness and compliance with engineering and design criteria and government regulations
  • Researching technical manuals, plans, catalogs, and historic records to obtain information for assigned projects.
  • Coordinating and supporting projects by supporting PMs and technical leads. Providing professional and technical assistance in the development and implementation of facility planning, standards, projects, space-planning, move coordination, furniture specification, and installation coordination
  • Complying with the safety and health program in support of an incident- and injury-free workplace
Who You Are
  • Proficient in CAD software and drafting techniques
  • Experienced in a project support role, preferably within engineering, manufacturing, construction, or a related industry
  • Possess a Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) certification (preferred)
  • An Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Computer-Aided Drafting, completion of an approved apprenticeship program, or a related field (preferred)
  • Possess a valid, unrestricted driver's license, as this position requires operating Colorado Springs Utilities vehicles

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
