Job summary

Shore Hotel in Santa Monica, CA is seeking an Engineering Supervisor to manage daily operations and the PM program. You will act as Manager on Duty when needed and oversee maintenance of electrical, HVAC, plumbing and life-safety systems.

Required are 3–5 years in hotel/HVAC systems and 1–2 years of supervisory experience. The role is non-exempt, full-time, on-site with a competitive hourly wage and a benefits package.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations and PM program to meet Shore Hotel standards.
  • Act as Manager on Duty when Managers are unavailable.

  • Assign, track, and review work projects with Managers.
  • Maintain HOTSOS entries and preventative maintenance logs.
  • Ensure safety, EPA, HazCom compliance within the department.
  • Lead staff scheduling and performance discussions.
  • Inspect and document physical plant and equipment conditions.
  • Communicate with supervisors on all engineering operations.
  • Respond to life system alarms and prioritize work requests.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for working with the Director of Engineering and the Engineering Manager (“Managers”) to ensure proper handling of the day-to-day operations, maintenance, service, and repair of all equipment, while supporting the Shore Hotel’s guest satisfaction goals, cost control, and profitability. This position will act as the Manager on Duty while the Managers are not available. This position is also responsible for overseeing and participating in the Preventative Maintenance (PM) program, ensuring that all rooms and public spaces meet Shore Hotel standards.

  • Understand all building-related systems and equipment. Electrical, HVAC, plumbing, laundry, pool, etc.
  • Flexibility and availability to cover work shift emergencies when needed
  • Answer and respond to all phone calls and any emergency calls
  • Must uphold the department and company standards of uniform and grooming compliance
  • Assign and monitor work projects as given by the Managers
  • Maintain work in HOTSOS to efficiently assist in projects in a timely manner
  • Assist with the mechanical inspection log and ensure that it is reviewed every day, and issues are followed up in a timely manner
  • Assist in all preventative maintenance (PM) on equipment/projects, discussed with the Managers before conducting any PM tasks
  • Assist in staff work schedules and post when accurate, and upon approval by the Managers
  • Assist in establishing and implementing, maintaining a preventative maintenance schedule
  • Assist in monitoring and controlling parts and materials
  • Communicate with your direct supervisor/manager regarding all aspects of engineering operations
  • Demonstrate positive leadership characteristics, which inspire employees to meet and exceed standards
  • Maintain all recordkeeping processes and systems
  • Assist in ensuring all life systems are operational and meet all requirements
  • Fulfill all risk control duties as assigned
  • Uphold safety, EPA, HazCom procedures in the department
  • Inspect and document physical plant, equipment, hazards, systems, and general engineering operations
  • Maintain all work areas clean and organized
  • Maintain documentation with reference to all mechanical operations of the equipment
  • Report all unsafe conditions immediately to the Managers
  • Respond to all life systems alarms
  • Assist in prioritizing all work requests, ensuring the handling of guest issues, staff issues, and internal hotel challenges
  • Perform in the capacity of any position supervised
  • Assist in conducting performance appraisals by way of your input/recommendations
  • Attend all mandatory meetings

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3-5 years of hotel, institutional, and HVAC systems experience is highly preferred
  • 1-2 years of previous management or supervisory experience
  • Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, life safety systems, preventative maintenance systems, and all engineering-related disciplines

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1-2 years of supervisory experience

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL WORK DEMANDS:

  • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time
  • Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist, and reach on a daily basis
  • Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Regular and on-time attendance is critical
  • Hours occasionally exceed 40 hours per week
  • Flexibility in working other work shifts as needed/necessary
  • Ability to stand during shifts
