Job summary

Sonesta Hotels is seeking an Engineering Supervisor to lead maintenance operations across the property, drive preventative maintenance programs, and ensure guest rooms and facilities stay in peak condition.

You will supervise staff, coordinate with departments, and troubleshoot HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems to maintain high service standards in a fast-paced hotel environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years previous experience in general maintenance (electrical, carpentry, mechanical, plumbing).
  • High school education or equivalent.

As the Engineering Supervisor, you’ll help lead hotel maintenance and engineering operations while ensuring the property remains fully operational, guest-ready, and maintained to the highest standards.

You’ll oversee maintenance tasks, support preventative maintenance programs, guide engineering team members, and help ensure smooth daily operations across the property.

What you’ll be doing

To ensure that the hotel guest rooms and building is properly maintained in proper working conditions. Assists Director of Engineering by leading the team and managing processes to meet Sonesta standards. Performs general repair and maintenance such as painting, plumbing and electrical systems. Checks electrical systems such as A/C controls, television sets, lighting systems, and makes minor repairs and replacements.

Principal duties and responsibilities (Essential Functions) include:
Key Job Functions
  • Responds to all guest complaints in guest rooms, meeting rooms, ballrooms and exhibit areas.
  • Preforms preventive maintenance in guest rooms.
  • Responds to back‑of‑house complaints.
  • Responds to all emergency situations such as fires, floods, and cleaning of areas after emergencies, etc.
  • Responds to work orders or room inspection reports submitted by entire hotel.
  • Repair broken items such as lamps, luggage racks, bell service carts, housekeeping and food and beverage carts, furniture, pictures, portable bars, etc.
  • Assembles desks, shelving, cabinets, etc., for back of the house personnel.
  • Assists guests with special requests such as opening luggage when keys are lost.
  • Responsible for Preventative Maintenance program and all related documents.
  • Television minor adjustments, change outs and air conditioner minor adjustments.
  • Inventories all supplies.
  • Prices out items and places orders as needed upon approval and issuance of purchase order number.
  • Has good communication with management on everyday projects through daily board check lists, verbal communication.
  • Assigns daily work and projects to general maintenance personnel on all shifts, including assigns enough work to be completed throughout the weekend.
  • Management of staff and conducts training, counseling and follow up.
  • Assists the Director of Engineering in finding proper coverage for all shifts when needed.
  • Assigns rooms for VIP inspections on a daily basis and rooms for rooms P.M., and record those rooms on P.M. Board.
  • Coordinates all projects with the Director of Engineering.

Qualifications and Skills

A candidate for this position must possess the following applicable knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to demonstrate and provide applicable examples to support his/her competency.

  • Minimum 2 years previous experience in general maintenance consisting of electrical, carpentry, mechanical and plumbing repairs.
  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Track record of delivering exceptional guest or client experience.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Communication skills are utilized a significant amount of time for training and safety purposes, and when interacting with guests and associates.
  • Appropriate professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Individual must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule from.
  • Sufficient knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Frequently standing up and moving about the facility.
  • Frequently bending, climbing, kneeling, and moving about the facility.
  • Carrying or lifting items may be required.

What you’ll be doing

Supervise daily engineering and maintenance operations across guest rooms, public spaces, back‑of‑house areas, and hotel facilities.

Support, train, schedule, and guide engineering and maintenance team members to ensure operational efficiency and service excellence.

Perform and oversee preventative maintenance programs for HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, painting, carpentry, mechanical equipment, and general building upkeep.

Respond to guest maintenance requests and operational repair needs quickly and professionally to support guest satisfaction.

Assist with troubleshooting and repairing hotel equipment, appliances, life safety systems, and building infrastructure.

Monitor maintenance logs, work orders, inspections, and engineering documentation to ensure operational accuracy and compliance.

Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, hotel safety procedures, fire and life safety standards, and preventative maintenance policies.

Support renovation projects, vendor coordination, inventory management, and facility improvement initiatives as needed.

Partner closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, Food & Beverage, and hotel leadership teams to support seamless hotel operations.

Maintain cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness across engineering shops, storage areas, and maintenance spaces.

Help foster a positive, collaborative, and service‑focused work environment aligned with Sonesta’s People People culture.

What great looks like

Previous engineering, maintenance, facilities, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, hotel maintenance, or building operations experience preferred.

Previous leadership or supervisory experience within hospitality, facilities, or maintenance operations preferred.

Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance programs, HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, painting, carpentry, and general building maintenance.

Ability to troubleshoot and complete maintenance repairs efficiently and safely.

Knowledge of OSHA regulations, fire and life safety standards, and hospitality maintenance compliance procedures preferred.

Strong communication, teamwork, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast‑paced hospitality environment.

Flexible availability including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and on‑call support as needed.
