Job summary

Sonesta International Hotels is seeking an Engineering Supervisor in Emeryville, CA to lead daily maintenance operations, oversee the engineering team, and ensure hotel facilities meet high standards of safety and guest readiness.

You will drive preventative maintenance across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and building systems, while partnering with other departments to support smooth hotel operations in a fast-paced hospitality environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in engineering, maintenance, facilities, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, hotel maintenance, or building operations.
• Leadership or supervisory experience within hospitality, facilities, or maintenance operations preferred.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and OSHA/fire life safety standards preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily engineering and maintenance operations across guest rooms, public spaces, back‑of‑house areas, and facilities.
• Train, schedule, and guide engineering and maintenance team members to ensure efficiency and service excellence.
• Oversee preventive maintenance programs for HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, painting, carpentry, and general upkeep.
• Respond to guest maintenance requests quickly to support satisfaction and safety.
• Troubleshoot and repair hotel equipment, life safety systems, and building infrastructure as needed.
• Monitor maintenance logs, work orders, inspections, and documentation for accuracy and compliance.
• Ensure OSHA, fire and life safety compliance; support renovations and vendor coordination.
• Collaborate with Housekeeping, Front Office, F&B, and leadership for seamless operations.
• Maintain clean, organized shops and storage areas; promote a collaborative, service‑oriented culture.

What you’ll be doing

• Supervise daily engineering and maintenance operations across guest rooms, public spaces, back‑of‑house areas, and hotel facilities.
• Support, train, schedule, and guide engineering and maintenance team members to ensure operational efficiency and service excellence.
• Perform and oversee preventative maintenance programs for HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, painting, carpentry, mechanical equipment, and general building upkeep.
• Respond to guest maintenance requests and operational repair needs quickly and professionally to support guest satisfaction.
• Assist with troubleshooting and repairing hotel equipment, appliances, life safety systems, and building infrastructure.
• Monitor maintenance logs, work orders, inspections, and engineering documentation to ensure operational accuracy and compliance.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, hotel safety procedures, fire and life safety standards, and preventative maintenance policies.
• Support renovation projects, vendor coordination, inventory management, and facility improvement initiatives as needed.
• Partner closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, Food & Beverage, and hotel leadership teams to support seamless hotel operations.
• Maintain cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness across engineering shops, storage areas, and maintenance spaces.
• Help foster a positive, collaborative, and service‑focused work environment aligned with Sonesta’s People People culture.
• Any other duties as assigned.

What great looks like

• Previous engineering, maintenance, facilities, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, hotel maintenance, or building operations experience preferred.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience within hospitality, facilities, or maintenance operations preferred.
• Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance programs, HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, painting, carpentry, and general building maintenance.
• Ability to troubleshoot and complete maintenance repairs efficiently and safely.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations, fire and life safety standards, and hospitality maintenance compliance procedures preferred.
• Strong communication, teamwork, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast‑paced hospitality environment.
• Flexible availability including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and on‑call support as needed.
• A passion for hospitality, teamwork, operational excellence, and creating safe and welcoming guest experiences.

Anticipated Pay Range & Additional Job Information

$35 to $39.00. Base pay offered may vary depending on various factors including but not limited to job related knowledge, skills and job specific experience/overall experience.
