Job summary

Highgate Hotels is seeking an Engineering Manager to oversee day-to-day operations of the engineering department at Isla Verde Beach. The role involves supervising staff, managing budgets, and ensuring safety, compliance, and energy efficiency across hotel assets.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of supervisory or lead mechanic experience in a hotel or related field; or a technical certificate with at least 1 year supervisory experience.
  • Stationary engineer’s license if required by local code.
  • HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations and general maintenance skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Long hours sometimes required.
  • Heavy physical work including lifting up to 100 lb occasionally.
  • Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times.
  • Effective written and verbal communication with staff and guests.
  • Must multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain a courteous, service-oriented approach in all guest interactions.
  • Attend hotel-required meetings and trainings.
  • Participate in M.O.D. coverage as required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and implementing plans to maintain property, equipment, grounds and other assets in safe state of repair.
  • Ensure the hotel complies with local, state and federal laws.
  • Supervise and train Engineering staff in Customer Service, SOPs and Loss Prevention.
  • Create and post Engineering staff schedules.
  • Create and adhere to annual department budget.
  • Assist in financial forecasts and participate in monthly P/L reviews.
  • Create and implement preventive maintenance programs for hotel equipment.
  • Ensure emergency and life-safety equipment are inspected and tested per standards.
  • Participate in energy conservation programs.
  • Review guest and meeting planner comment cards to identify and fix issues.
  • Ensure ADA compliance.
  • Assist with administration of vendor contracts for engineering.
  • Handle room maintenance requests promptly and courteously.
  • Follow alarms, determine location and cause, report findings to Front Desk.
  • Assist with special projects and renovations as needed.
  • Support and participate in Highgate Hotel programs.
  • Lead or participate in the Highgate Hotel Safety Committee.

Overview

The Engineering Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the engineering department. In the absence of the Director, the Engineering Manager will assume the administrative, financial and operating aspects of the hotel as they relate to engineering.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in developing and implementing plans to maintain property, equipment, grounds and other assets in a safe and acceptable state of repair.
  • Ensure the hotel is in compliance with all local, state and federal laws.
  • Supervise and train all Engineering staff in Customer Service, Empowerment, Standard Operating Procedures and Loss Prevention.
  • Create and post all Engineering staffs schedules.
  • Create and adhere to annual budget for department.
  • Assist in developing financial forecasts and actively participate in monthly profit/loss review meetings.
  • Create and implement preventative maintenance program for all hotel equipment.
  • Ensure all emergency and life safety equipment and systems are inspected, tested and certified per Highgate Hotel standards.
  • Actively participate in energy conservation programs.
  • Review all guest and meeting planner comment cards to ensure problems are identified and corrected in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Assist with the administration of all vendor contracts controlled by the engineering department.
  • Ensure that room maintenance requests are handled in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Follow up on all alarms immediately to determine the exact location and cause. Determine emergency status and report findings to Front Desk. Take immediate action as necessary.
  • Assist as necessary with special projects and renovations.
  • Support and participate in all Highgate Hotel programs.
  • Lead and/or participate in Highgate Hotel Safety Committee.
