Job summary

Baxter is seeking an enterprise architect to provide leadership in cloud-native platform strategy and distributed systems governance. You will guide architecture decisions across products, services, and regions, ensuring security, resiliency, and scalable API ecosystems.

Ideal candidates bring 18+ years in software engineering and enterprise architecture, with deep Kubernetes, IaC, and cloud experience (Azure preferred). Healthcare tech experience is a plus; a bachelor’s degree is required.

Your Role at Baxter

Your Role at Baxter Provides enterprise-level technical leadership for cloud shared services and related connected-care ecosystems. Collaborates with engineering, product, and business leaders to shape long-term architectural strategy, establish technical standards, and guide the evolution of secure, cloud-native services that support multiple products, regions, and business domains. Serves as a senior technical leader for distributed systems, GraphQL and API architecture, multi-region cloud strategy, service interoperability, scalability, security, resiliency, observability, SOC 2 readiness, and operational excellence. Partners closely with executive leadership, product management, cybersecurity, quality, regulatory, operations, and engineering teams to align technology investments, architectural decisions, and platform capabilities with business objectives and sustained growth.

What You'll Do

Define and drive the long-term architecture vision, technical roadmap, governance standards, and cloud-native platform strategy for CSA in partnership with engineering and business stakeholders. Collaborate with architects, engineering leaders, and cross-functional teams to guide enterprise-wide architectural decisions across products, services, and engineering organizations. Lead the design and governance of scalable service, API, and integration architectures across GraphQL, REST, event-driven systems, and microservices, building alignment around architectural best practices. Partner with engineering and operations teams to establish and evolve multi-region cloud strategies that support high availability, resiliency, disaster recovery, scalability, data residency, and operational readiness. Champion modernization initiatives across Kubernetes, platform engineering, Infrastructure as Code, automated delivery pipelines, event streaming, and cloud-native technologies. Collaborate with cybersecurity, quality, regulatory, and engineering teams to define and implement security and compliance architecture standards, including SOC 2 readiness, identity and access management, encryption, secure software supply chains, and healthcare data protection requirements. Facilitate architecture governance through reviews, standards, reference patterns, technical decision frameworks, and proactive management of architectural risk and technical debt. Influence executive stakeholders, mentor senior technical leaders, and partner across engineering, product, security, quality, regulatory, audit, and operations teams to advance organizational architecture maturity, innovation, and technical excellence.

What You'll Bring

18+ years of progressive software engineering experience with deep expertise in enterprise architecture, technical leadership, cloud-native platforms, distributed systems, microservices, and mission-critical service architectures. Proven experience designing and governing scalable API ecosystems, including GraphQL, REST, event-driven architectures, schema management, federation/composition, authorization, observability, and production operations. Strong expertise defining and implementing multi-region cloud strategies, including resiliency, disaster recovery, failover, traffic routing, replication, data residency, capacity planning, and cost optimization. Expert-level proficiency with Node.js, .NET, APIs, containers, Kubernetes, event-driven systems, and modern cloud engineering and platform modernization practices. Deep experience with Azure or other hyperscale cloud environments, including networking, identity and access management, platform operations, security, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, OpenTofu, or similar). Demonstrated expertise in SOC 2 compliance, DevSecOps, SRE, observability, API governance, secure software supply chains, audit readiness, and regulated software development practices. Proven ability to influence executive stakeholders, lead enterprise-wide architecture transformations, communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, and drive strategic decisions across cross-functional organizations. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (advanced degree preferred), with experience in healthcare technology, medical devices, connected-care platforms, or other highly regulated industries strongly preferred.

The estimated base salary for this position is $152,000-$209,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
