Ellaway Blues Consulting in Kansas City is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineering Manager to lead the mechanical engineering execution for power generation and large-scale industrial projects. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline preferred.
  • At least five years of engineering experience in power generation, utilities, energy, heavy manufacturing or similar large-scale industrial environment.
  • Experience leading engineering workstreams and coordinating technical teams.
  • Practical knowledge of power plants, gas or steam turbines, rotating equipment and piping systems.
  • Professional Engineer registration or relevant project-management certification desirable but not required.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical engineering execution for power generation and large-scale industrial projects.

  • Manage engineering scope, schedules, budgets, priorities and technical deliverables.
  • Ensure activities align with project requirements, codes, client standards and quality expectations.
  • Review mechanical documents, drawings, calculations, specifications and equipment data.
  • Support engineering of rotating equipment, piping, thermal systems, and balance-of-plant infrastructure.
  • Coordinate information between engineering teams, suppliers, contractors, construction personnel and client representatives.
  • Monitor progress, identify risks and resolve technical or execution-related issues.
  • Manage changes to engineering scope and assess cost and schedule impacts.
  • Coordinate vendor documentation, technical bid evaluations and equipment-related activities.
  • Support procurement, construction, commissioning and project closeout as required.
  • Participate in design reviews and ensure deliverables are completed on schedule.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and designers.
  • Develop clear project reporting and communicate status to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to improvements in engineering procedures, project execution practices and technical standards.

Mechanical Project Engineering Manager's Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the mechanical engineering execution of power generation and large-scale industrial projects.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, including mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, controls and piping functions.
  • Manage engineering scope, schedules, budgets, priorities and technical deliverables.
  • Ensure engineering activities remain aligned with project requirements, applicable codes, client standards and quality expectations.
  • Review mechanical engineering documents, drawings, calculations, specifications and equipment data.
  • Support the engineering of rotating equipment, piping systems, thermal systems, auxiliary equipment and balance-of-plant infrastructure.
  • Coordinate technical information between engineering teams, suppliers, contractors, construction personnel and client representatives.
  • Monitor engineering progress, identify project risks and resolve technical or execution-related issues.
  • Manage changes to engineering scope and support the evaluation of cost and schedule impacts.
  • Coordinate vendor documentation, technical bid evaluations and equipment-related engineering activities.
  • Support procurement, construction, commissioning and project closeout as required.
  • Participate in design reviews and ensure deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and designers.

Mechanical Project Engineering Manager's Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related technical discipline is preferred.
  • Equivalent technical training and directly relevant project engineering experience may also be considered.
  • At least five years of engineering experience within power generation, utilities, energy, heavy manufacturing or another large-scale industrial environment.
  • Previous experience as a Project Engineer, Lead Mechanical Engineer, Engineering Project Manager or similar technical project leader.
  • At least two years of experience leading engineering workstreams, coordinating technical teams or managing project execution is preferred.
  • Practical knowledge of power plants, gas-fired generation facilities or other industrial energy projects.
  • Mechanical engineering experience involving one or more of the following:
  • Gas or steam turbines
  • Rotating equipment
  • Pumps and compressors
  • Piping and mechanical systems
  • Thermal systems
  • Utility and auxiliary systems
  • Demonstrated ability to manage engineering scope, schedules, budgets, deliverables and change-related activities.
  • Strong understanding of multidisciplinary engineering workflows and design coordination.
  • Experience reviewing and coordinating technical documentation across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Familiarity with procurement, vendor management, construction support and commissioning activities.
  • Ability to interpret project schedules, execution plans and project controls information.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities within a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
  • Experience with engineering document-management, scheduling, design or project collaboration systems is beneficial.
  • Professional Engineer registration or a relevant project-management certification is desirable but not required.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
