Job summary

Amazon Data Services Spain, S.L.U. is seeking an Engineering Operations Technician – Water Engineer to ensure reliable operation of water treatment systems, RO equipment, disinfection, and process water across AWS data centers.

You will lead preventative maintenance, develop Legionella prevention programs, improve Water Utilization Efficiency, and collaborate with design, mechanical and field teams to review SOPs, MOPs and equipment records.

Qualifications

• Experience implementing environmental compliance programs (waste, water, air)
• Proficient in English communication, written and spoken
• Extensive knowledge of water treatment technologies and processes

• Knowledge of hydraulic systems, fluid mechanics and water distribution design

As a DCEO: Engineering Operations Technician – Water Engineer at AWS, you will be responsible of ensuring the seamless operation and optimization of water treatment systems and chemical processes across our data center fleet. This role combines expertise in water chemistry, treatment systems, and infrastructure management to ensure the reliable operation of AWS data centers.

We are looking for a Water Utilities Engineer to join the Operations Team within our Utilities Team at the ZAZ cluster. The EOT is a hands‑on water equipment troubleshooting and operation responder, with a focus on RO equipment, disinfection systems, evaporative cooling and associated critical infrastructure. Your work will help maintain one of the world's largest information system infrastructures.

Key job responsibilities

Technical Leadership

• Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for water system infrastructure and chemical treatments
• Oversee critical systems including ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, and oxidant systems
• Develop and maintain Legionella prevention programs
• Implement Water Utilization Efficiency (WUE) improvements

Design & Engineering

• Review and influence water chemistry and treatment designs for new facilities
• Coordinate with design engineering teams on system specifications
• Review construction documents and provide technical guidance

Operational Management

• Manage preventative maintenance programs
• Create and implement standard operating procedures
• Monitor system performance and establish benchmarks
• Coordinate with operations managers and field engineering teams
• Review of procedures (SOPs/MOPs/EOPs), support compliance with global policies, and maintain accurate records of equipment status, incidents, and maintenance activities.

About the team

We are the Engineering Operations Water Utilities Team, an Infrastructure Operations team dedicated to the water treatment and distribution systems of the AWS data center campus. Our mission is to ensure that the water utility systems supporting the cluster — including cooling circuits, process water, chemical treatment, and hydraulic infrastructure — operate reliably, safely, and efficiently. We work in close coordination with construction, commissioning, design, mechanical teams, and external water utility providers. You'll join a team of skilled technicians and engineers committed to continuous improvement, safety excellence, quality compliance, and operational resilience. Together, we're building and maintaining the critical infrastructure that keeps innovation running for customers globally.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience developing and implementing environmental compliance programs including regulated waste, water, and air regulations in accordance with applicable laws
• Experience in English-language communication skills, both written and verbal
• Extensive knowledge of water treatment technologies and processes
• Experience with industrial water system design and operation
• Knowledge of hydraulic systems, fluid mechanics, and water distribution network design
• Understanding of mechanical engineering principles applied to water infrastructure (pumps, valves, heat exchangers, piping)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in data centers or critical infrastructure
• Knowledge of membrane-based treatment systems and advanced oxidation processes
• Familiarity with building management systems and controls
• Experience with performance-based design alternatives
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Background in mechanical maintenance of industrial water systems (cooling towers, boilers, chilled water loops)
• Speak, write, and read fluently in Spanish and English (required for local regulatory and contractor interaction)
