Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking Data Center Engineering Operations Technicians (EOTs) to be the front-line responders for hands-on electrical and mechanical operations in our data centers around Fairfax, VA. This role supports generators, switchgear, UPS, PDUs, AHUs, and building automation systems with rotating 12-hour shifts.

Ideal candidates have 1+ years in electrical or mechanical work or data center facilities, a High School diploma, and active Top Secret with SCI eligibility

Qualifications

• 1+ years of electrical or mechanical experience in data centers or mission-critical facilities.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, generator, and fire/life safety equipment in the data center.
• Troubleshoot facility equipment and rack-level events within SLAs.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks including HVAC PMs, filter changes, and rack power installs.
• Provide support to Data Center Operations technicians and supervise contractors.
• Conduct root cause analysis of equipment failures.
• Adhere to safety procedures and write procedures for operations.
• Work 12 hour shifts with rotating 3 and 4 day weeks (days/nights).
• Take daily readings of temperatures, voltages, currents, and other metrics.
• Manage building workflows in CMMS and track spare parts inventory.
• Respond to off-hour emergency calls per on-call rotation.
• Drive innovation to reduce operational costs.

The Data Center Engineering Operations Technicians (EOTs) are Amazon’s front line responders for hands‑on electrical and mechanical operations and troubleshooting. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, stand‑by diesel generators, switchboards/switchgears, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems. They provide 24/7 shift coverage which could include rotating shifts, 3, 4, or 5 day work weeks.

The Data Center Engineering Operations Technicians (EOTs) are Amazon’s front line responders for hands‑on electrical and mechanical operations and troubleshooting. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, stand‑by diesel generators, switchboards/switchgears, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems. They provide 24/7 shift coverage which could include rotating shifts, 3, 4, or 5 day work weeks.

This position requires that the candidate selected be a US citizen and currently possess and maintain an active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility. The position further requires that, after start, the selected candidate obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph and satisfy other security related requirements.

Key job responsibilities

• Operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, generator, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center
• Troubleshoot facility equipment and rack‑level events within internal SLAs
• Perform limited maintenance tasks to including filter changes, HVAC PMs, rack power installs, rack PDU, and rack ATS replacements
• Provide support to Data Center Operations technicians
• Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures
• Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work
• Write procedures
• Work a 12 hour shift (rotating 3 and 4 day work weeks days or nights)
• Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds/log to include but not limited to temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.
• Utilize internal CMMS to manage building workflows and spare part inventory
• Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance
• Respond to off hour emergency calls per on call rotation for any one of the region’s sites
• Fully comply with all physical security procedures and policies
• Drive innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities
• Manipulate small wires and objects

Basic Qualifications

• 1+ years of electrical or mechanical, or 1+ years of data center or mission critical facilities (example: hospital, military facility, public safety facility, etc.) experience
• High school or equivalent diploma
• Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret with SCI eligibility or above

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of data center engineering experience
