Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. is seeking a Data Center Engineering Technician to maintain and troubleshoot mission-critical facilities, including generators, electrical systems, UPS, cooling, and fire/life safety equipment.

You will work on-site to keep the data center running with high reliability. This role requires hands-on electrical and mechanical experience, ability to travel between data centers, and flexibility for long shifts and on-call rotations.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of electrical or mechanical experience.
  • 1+ year of experience with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Daily rounds to monitor electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment for 24/7 reliability.
  • Monitor Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Management System (EPMS).
  • Assist in troubleshooting facility and rack-level events within internal SLA.
  • Perform rack installs and rack decommissioning within internal SLA.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Write technical documentation to support change management.
  • Monitor daily work requests, manage them to resolution, and execute projects from conception to completion.
  • Provide on-site support for contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors, ensuring all work adheres to established practices, procedures, and local legislation.
  • Work schedule may change based on specific site needs; shifts can be up to 12 hours and may include on-call rotations.
  • The role may support multiple locations.

Overview

Engineering Technicians are Amazon’s front line for hands‑on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting. They maintain, operate, and troubleshoot Data Center Operations Mission‑Critical Facilities – stand‑by diesel generators, fuel systems, three‑phase electrical systems (switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, wet‑cell batteries), mechanical/air‑conditioning equipment (CRAHU units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, water systems, air handlers, pumps, motors), cooling towers/water chemical systems, fire/life safety equipment, building automation, and general facilities equipment. AWS Infrastructure Services design, plan, and operate all AWS global infrastructure, keeping the cloud running.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers. You’ll collaborate across AWS to maintain the highest standards for safety and security while delivering capacity at the lowest possible cost, experiencing an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own projects to completion.

NOTE: Amazon does not sponsor immigration visas (H‑1B, TN, or other non‑immigrant visas) for this role. Lump‑sum stipend will be provided to eligible candidates who relocate for this position.

Physical Requirements
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 39 pounds independently.
  • Participate in group lifts for 40 pounds or more.
  • Maintain balance and perform construction tasks while on a ladder.
  • Walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb stairs, twist, bend, work above shoulders, grasp, carry, push and pull objects into position.
  • Work in an environment requiring ear protection.
Essential Requirements
  • Ability to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed.
  • Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training periods.
  • Travel frequency will vary based on business needs and operational status of assigned facility. Candidates must be able to travel over 50 miles or commute less than 50 miles to active data center sites as required.
Key Job Responsibilities

A Day in the Life

This role acts as Amazon’s front line for hands‑on electrical and mechanical equipment preventive maintenance and troubleshooting, reporting to a site’s Data Center Facility Manager (FM). You’ll maintain, operate, and troubleshoot mission‑critical data center facility equipment including stand‑by diesel generators, fuel systems, three‑phase electrical systems (switchgear, UPS units, PDUs, wet‑cell batteries), mechanical equipment (CRAHU units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, water systems, air handlers, pumps, motors), fire/life safety equipment, building automation systems, and general facilities equipment.

Basic Qualifications
  • 1+ year of electrical or mechanical experience.
  • 1+ year of experience with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of data center engineering experience.
  • Technical (Military/Trade School) training.
