The ideal candidate will have extensive planning/production experience, leadership ability, and strong analytical and communication skills to resolve manufacturing and procurement

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in business, planning, or a related discipline with 8+ years of experience or 10+ with a bachelor's.
  • Deep understanding of planning and production operation theories and their practical application.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and coordination skills with excellent communication.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate prototype and initial production builds across manufacturing, procurement, and testing.
  • Serve as liaison to vendors, subcontractors, and SMEs to ensure schedule parity and on-time delivery.
  • Analyze specifications, drawings, and production plans; provide technical information across functions.
  • Monitor design and development progress and escalate issues affecting schedules or costs.
  • Support process improvements for Design for Manufacturing/Quality and participate in problem resolution.

Job description

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

With limited supervision, this position is responsible for supporting GA-ASI's Mechanical Systems engineering team as a liaison to manufacturing and procurements to expedite the design and development process. In this role, the Engineering Manufacturing Liaison (EML) will coordinate prototype and initial production builds of advanced landing gear, actuation, mechanism, and ground support equipment design covering component builds through aircraft integration and test. Collaboration will include Subject Matter Experts (SME) within the Mechanical Systems engineering team, engineering manufacturing prototype shops, manufacturing production shops, purchasing and Subcontract Administrators, suppliers (including external manufacturing shops, outside processing shops, and subcontractors), quality, integration, and flight test facilities.

The EML will evaluate and resolve complex engineering related production problems related to manufacturing, design, procurement, quality and material engineering. Additionally, the EML will serve as an external spokesperson through correspondence with vendors and subcontractors to ensure delivery dates and company objectives are met. This role exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments and develops solutions to complex problems. This position involves the exercise of independent judgment and discretion about matters of significance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensures parts and purchase requisitions are processed through the system in a timely manner.
  • Ensures delivery dates are met by maintaining frequent contact with all critical subcontractors and vendors.
  • Analyzes engineering specifications and drawings.
  • Confers across functional areas to provide and obtain technical information.
  • Coordinates and monitors the design and development process by making periodic visits to various departments such as manufacturing shops, quality assurance, sales, MRB cribs, planning, purchasing, manufacturing engineering and electrical engineering.
  • Coordinates engineering priorities for manufacturing issues, and ensures schedule parity. Advises management of the status of work in progress and identifies potential production problems.
  • Ensures rapid disposition of engineering holds and lift orders.
  • Coordinates Manufacturing Service Request activities by resolving priority schedule conflicts among engineering departments due to shop capacity limitations and resolving shop capacity issues with manufacturing and planning.
  • Ensures Design for Manufacturing and Design for Quality feedback is considered with engineering SME's
  • Reviews and recommends resolutions for open engineering issues affecting sales orders. Alerts planning department to open engineering issues that may affect manufacturing. Alerts engineering departments to sales order activity which may affect outstanding work.
  • May function in an advisory or leadership role and provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff.
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices. Additional Functions Other duties as assigned or required.
Job Qualifications
  • Typically requires a bachelor's or master's degree in business, planning, or a related discipline and ten or more years progressive experience in planning, coordinating, and scheduling production operations with a bachelor's degree or eight or more years experience with a master's degree.Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
  • Must demonstrate an extensive understanding of planning and production operation theories, concepts andprinciples and experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts.
  • Must possess leadership skills including organizing, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating workassignments to meet project milestones or established completion dates.
  • Must possess:(1) the ability to identify issues, analyze and interpret data and develop innovative solutions to a variety of complex problems; (2) excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report, and present findings; (3) excellent interpersonal skills to influence and guide others; (4) the ability to contribute to the development of new processes or systems and communicate new concepts; and (5) excellent computer skills. The ability to work independently or in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
